very difficult questions about life

Ok, so clearly it is possible to have a humanzee as we have surmised that the chromosome numbers are not a problem, and that in-vitro is a possibility. I wonder if there ever have been any hybrids in the past? A hybrid with the intelligence of a human and the agility of a chimp seems like an attractive military prospect.

This. If it has been done, you won´t know about it, unless you are kidnapped for the experiments.

EDIT: It´s really difficult to translate my toughts to portuguese and then to english.

Would you like a real-life Planet of the Apes situation? I think some people believe Bigfoot to be inbetween Humans and Chimpanzees. Since it was American television it is probably false but I heard a story that someone in Europe tried mixing them to make a Bigfoot-like soldier.

How do we know that there isn't an elite SEAL or Spetsnaz team comprised of human-chimp hybrids? For centuries we have been trying to use science to enhance the capabilities of humans, and independently of that, we have been crossing animals to get offspring with improved traits. It doesn't seem like a far stretch....

Well I see we've all done a great job at answering epickoala's questions.:D

I have a question for when more people post their lists.

question: are people from New South Wales called New South Welshmen??

I know this was on a game but if you have two white tigers, who breed, is it possible to get a regularly coloured one? I'm just asking because this happened to me on zoo tycoon.

While Zoo Tycoon isn't a very realistic game, this is a good question. It's my understanding that when it comes to a Tiger whose precursors breed with a white tiger its cubs can still be white even if that animal breed with a normal tiger. This is because (as far as I'm concerned) the white trait is a recessive traiy and the normal color is the dominent. Mating two normal tigers can still result in a white cub if one of the tigers parents were white or had a parent who was white. If a white and a normal breed then the cubs (let's pretend four) would come out three normal and one white (theoretically). That said, if you breed two whites and they were both heterozygous then there's a chance at least one offspring will be normal.

I have seen a movie about a Gorilla Human cross.

In the end his Gorilla mother kills him.

Interesting thread,

I'll choose to save a loved one and pray neither of us ever get cancer!

Id choose, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, fish, sheep, bees, humans, and maybe two exotics.

Im a pretty selfish person obviously lol :) and I like my steaks and warm clothes and bees to keep the flowers going that give me my fruit and veg!

With regard to Human Chimp hybrid. I am sure you have all heard of Oliver the humanzee. If not youtube him, the full documentry is available online.

I am sure it has been done, whether or not to full term or not I am not sure. The Russians certinaly made some serious efforts to do it. Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov a Russian biologist attempted it around 1910. Google him to read about his works in full.

My question is, have any of the great apes ever been hybridised with each other? I know Orangutans have been hybridised with each other but I am talking about something more drastic. I suppose the most likely species are bonobo and chimps. I am sure early zoo curators did not care to know the difference or have the space to keep them separate. Gorilla and chimp Hybrids maybe a little more unlikely but I am sure they have been kept together in the past.
