Virginia Zoo Virginia Zoo News 2016

Interesting, I though only Nashville and Columbus had Palawan Binturongs at the moment.

I'll have to double check my photos when I get home. However, I know the second pair recently were transferred to the zoo, so maybe they came from one of those zoos.

EDIT: I got access to the photo, but the sun washed out the sign. So I guess it will be a mystery until someone else goes there.

According to ZIMS, the state of the Palawan binturong within AZA collections is as follows:
Columbus 2.0.1
Nashville 4.2.1
Pittsburgh 0.1.0

How did you get access to ZIMS? Did you have to apply for membership?

I wonder if Pittsburgh female binturong will be on display for one of their upcoming areas of the zoo or if she's behind the scenes permanently.

Rimba, the male Malayan tapir, has a new exhibit mate, female Haddie. They mentioned on facebook after introductions who knows if love will be in the air so I am assuming they are recommended to breed. There's a cute video of them squeaking together on facebook.

I went back in November but forgot to post about it until now. The zoo has four binturongs on exhibit, though none of the signs indicate subspecies. I've since learned that one of the four is a Javan binturong (A.b. penicillatus). They're rarer than Palawan. Something to try to find on a return visit, I guess.
