We visited the zoo today for the first time. Was relatively empty for the majority of the day. Managed to see all of the animals apart from the Red Pandas no sign of them even though we visited a few times during the day. Some of the enclosures at the zoo I really liked Sealions Rock being one of them, not so sure on the chimpanzee enclosure or the snow leopard enclosure. Managed to see the Penguin Parade twice during the day an mangaged to survive being dive bombed by the various gulls that surround the penguins during the parade. The Tiger enclosure is also something that I was unsure about not quite sure why just wasnt right for me maybe its due to the fact that im used to seeing Chesters Tiger enclosure. No sign of the Snow Leopard cubs all day we did see the two adults thought they were curled up in the indoor cages. Also the chimpanzees seem alot darker that the chimpanzees at chester does anybody know why?

Chimps@Maybe they have developed a thicker coat due to the difference in climate (Seems weird but its possible the weather is alot more windy there ), thus them looking darker.

That sounds pretty plausible. Chester's chimp island is fairly secluded and is shielded by the chimp house and the tropical realm (not to mention the flat terrain of the zoo helps).

Welsh Mountain's outdoor enclosure is quite exposed to the elements particularly if the chimps want to climb the telegraph poles or platforms.

The Pandas have become a bit difficult to see ever since they moved there to be honest. It was extremly easy to spot them in the old enclosure (now the Corella aviary).
I agree with you regarding the poorer exhibits. The Snow Leopard enclosure needs to go asap in my opinion. The Tiger enclosure is not that bad but yes a bit of a dip in quality from Chester.
The Chimpanzees enclosure would be better suited to a smaller species like Colobus in my opinion.

We actually walked past the snow leopard enclosure at first as we thought it was an avairy! cant believe how small it is. Definetly think the chimp enclosure would be more sorted to a smaller species. there indoor enclosure did seem a little small aswell but maybe it is ok seeing as there is only 11 chimps there im not sure. they didnt seem as active as other groups of chimps i have saw but again not sure if that was just due to the weather outside and the small conditions inside. Wonder if in the future they will get things like elephants or lions think it would help bring people into the zoo but not sure how or if they would be able to house them.

Not sure if you're aware, but WMZ's camel enclosure used to hold elephants and the tiger enclosure used to hold lions.

I have very serious doubts the zoo will look to bring either species back...

Really cant imagine elephants being in that small paddock!

Are the sumatran tigers there an over represented pair or non breeding siblings, as I've never heard of anything of tiger cubs there in all the years they have had them.

A plausible theory. I think the part about thicker coats making them looking darker would certainly be correct.:)

there faces were alot darker too compared to chesters chimps for example. also they had a pair of red faced spider monkeys had never saw them before are a lot bigger than the ones at chester.

Chimps with dark faces and long hair. Maybe they have a lot of eastern chimpanzee genes in the group.

I think there 2:0 brothers possibly but I could be wrong.

They are brother and sister (Flynn and Daphne) born at Thrigby Hall in the late 90's.

How come they where never given a breeding recommendation (with different mates), or are the Thrigby Hall line of tigers overrepresented. Do Thrigby still breed from their tigers?
