Just a few bits of news the Crowned Guenon and Hamlyns Monkeys are no out of the Colobus House, and their place has been taken with some Francois Langur. The Hamlyns Monkey are now in the Primate House by the Gibbon Nursery, while the Crowned Guenon is now in the Monkey House,at the moment neither of the species are labelled. The baby Tufted Deer is due to be moved out from its parents, and should be put down by the Babirusa.

Good news about the guenons - no longer the lottery as to which you see!

I would rather see this pair placed somewhere very quiet well away from contact with other species, or alternatively sent to another zoo, as they still seem to be failing to breed at Twycross(I don't think they've ever had a birth?). I think the close proximity of many of the monkeys with other species on either side or closeby may be one reason for some of the shyer species like the Hamlyn's failing to breed. This is not an 'old' pair like some of their other guenons.

can i ask a quick question...

Do the giraffes have only concrete paddock? Are they allowed access to a grass paddock?

They only have a concrete paddock. There's no grass or sand paddock. This is a not uncommon way of keeping giraffes historically, when it was thought necessary to prevent foot problems (both hoof growth and parasites). It's clearly far from ideal, but I don't see it changing in the short term, particularly as the giraffe paddock is hemmed in by other buildings all round.
