Visit 27.11.10,
All Mandrill's were out and visual especially the big male 'Tomer' also saw the baby.
The Pygmy Hippo's were inside and not allowed outside as it was snowy...
Fed the Giraffe's the batchellor group is down to 4 Sillan left for Folly Farm.
Great photos of the African Lion's Shikar,Tasa and Chevelle.
Yorik's group was out as predicted.
Fennec Fox were sleeping.
I dont think that any of the Penguin's moved because it was so cold.
The Giant Otter's Tupi and the New male Carlos were shut inside and the windows were steemed up.
Suprisngly the Lowland Paca active especially the parents.
Saka and Bonita the Jaguar's were active.
Only Snoopy came out for a brief strole.
The Lowland Tapir's loved their backed being scratched.
In the Guide Book South Lakes list they have the only Tayra in the UK but did not see them?
Saw the baby Siamang and White Handed Gibbon,also stroaked the Babuirsa Male.
The Sumatran Tiger's Alisha and Padang were extertemly active And i started talking to Alisha.
Nina the Amur Tiger seemed very lonely and were agiated she would not settle down.
Kadi was very beatiful and seemed very tired.

thanks jordan I have not visited the park itself just seen the flamingos on the prgramme zoo road trip on 5 but the house looks very strange it looked like it was on a sloap ? I think they were imported from cuba at great expense,how many does it look like they have thanks :)
 
The Tayra havent arrived yet to my knowledge, I asked a member of staff when I visited around 4 weeks back. And only zoo in the UK? Doesnt Exmoor keep Tayra?
 
Exmoor have a male and the rscc also have a pair! And I believe a private collection also has two older females!
 
Alas I had to change my plans as the weather caused transport problems. I may reschedule my visit for sometime in the next fortnight.

I saw the Tayra listed in the guide book too, yet it isn't on the map at the back of the book or on a map at the zoo. I didn't find it during my last visit either but then I didn't find a good many things. The signage is awful imo and the 'guide book' doesn't tell you anything about animals at the zoo, just a short piece about the species. Not what I want from a guide book to the zoo as I could look that info up on the internet or elsewhere.

The Caribbean Flamingo are indeed indoors and their housing does have a low slope to at least part of it. While I was there last they seemed relaxed enough, preening and feeding.

Inside info from a volunteer at the zoo tells me that prices in the food and retail outlets were hiked up prior to the 'free entry for all' began. No surprise there then. ;)
