According to the "official" tourist guide for Beijing zoo:

Recommended Time for a Visit: One hour

One hour? Not a chance! This place is pretty big - I think you'd have to walk pretty fast and only glance at each exhibit to get around it in an hour.

If you add the aquarium to the visit, there's another hour gone at least - especially if you watch one of their shows.

It just made me laugh when I read that

perhaps they figured that one hour would be enough for most foreign visitors to tolerate sub standard conditions ?!?

Hah! that is pretty ridicolour even in Chinese Mythlogy where a day suposingly goes for 6000 times that a sand clock finishes (1 minute)! belonging to the Jade emperor (king of gods) That means if you even relate to that means the day is broken into 100 hours! 100 broken into 24 means even less viewing time! Perhpas this is only relevant to the gods!
