visit to colchester

I visited Colchester Zoo for the first time last week and I just wanted to say "thank you" to zoogiraffe who provided a list of animals unique to Colchester. I managed to see the feathertail gliders in action, which was really interesting – had never heard of them before and certainly wouldn't have looked through the curtain in the farm building without your guidance! I also went on the road train and spotted the black backed jackal... and we found the giant plated lizard, very impressive. We were amazed by the binturong – I had no idea what the animal was when I first saw it bounding about on the branches – it's fantastic that there are animals in UK zoos that I've never even heard of!

Altogether a very enjoyable visit – I'll have to go again as we missed quite a lot – almost all the animals appeared to be in very good condition, and after my "local" London Zoo it was certainly a change in environment – so hilly!!!

feathertail gliders are fantastic little animals. The thing that always sticks in my head is the way they can run across glass like geckos!

GLad you enjoyed your trip!! can't help think that colchester is under rated, when I think it is easily up there with the best zoos in the UK!
Zoogiraffe would it be possible to have that list aswell please???

Glad you enjoyed your day volvox, and managed to find some of the species not marked on the pretty poor map;) I agree I think Colchester is very under rated by many & comfortably makes the top 10 UK zoos & would make my top 5! I made my first visit of the year yesterday, the zoo was almost as busy as I've seen it and despite my reservations, the new lemur walkthrough looks great!

It was in "The only collection in the UK that you can see a..." about three weeks ago.
