I visited Marwell today and these were my observations:

The giraffes, sable antelopes and congo buffaloes were all out in the paddock until late afternoon when only the sable antelopes were out
Still no giraffes yet in the African Valley
All four ocelots were outside
The bat-eared fox was in the outside den
The camel enclosure appeared to be empty
A female mallard was distressed by one of the siamang gibbons as her eight ducklings were the opposite side of the mesh to her and their way through was being obstructed by the siamang - it all ended up OK though
Still no marmosets on the island in Tropical World
Wendy and Lola the pygmy hippos seemed to stay indoors all day
The new Amphibian Centre had a sign on it saying that it would be opening in Summer 2009
The capybaras now have four babies, born on Tuesday (14th April) and they are very cute :D - this now brings the family group to a total of eleven
The male lowland anoa (Vlad, I think) was in the old babirusa enclosure
The golden-headed lion tamarins were indoors on the Black Swan Pond island - I haven't yet seen them outside, unfortunately

One thing I hadn't realised was mentioned in the keeper talk for the cheetahs. The onshow pair are Paka (f) and Turkus (m), but Marwell also currently has two of Paka's daughters (Suki and Juba) offshow. It is hoped that when a new enclosure is built for the cheetahs, they will be transferred to one section of it so that they have the chance to breed with Turkus.

As you would expect from me, I am about to upload some photos to the gallery :)

I had wondered about the Cheetah's. I took a look at Marwell's 08 Animal Inventory and it said 1 male and 3 females. But thanks for clearing that up :)

How were the Tigers? Or were they not out?

I got very close views of Gamin yesterday; first on his platform in the house and then right against the fence as he watched the feed truck. Got some pics of the latter in the gallery. :D

Thanks! :) Methinks I need to change the names of my photo's x_x lol! :P

When was Zambar born? (sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can lol)

I was at Marwell last week and noticed that it said that Mary the giraffe was still under veterinary care (that sign was up two months ago). we also heard two keepers talking about her and commenting about how she seemed like a completely different giraffe to the one giving birth on Zoo Babies. Doesn't sound good, anyone know what is going on?
PS. loving the arrival of the new tapirs!
