Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Visiting Longleat Safari Park

just new species generally, but paticularly any new species into the safari reserves and any new species being aquariud for the animal adventure.

also may i ask another question, can you ask weather it is true that they used to keep king penguins in the lake?

Bloody typical. Less than a week after my visit, Animal Adventure officially opens. If nobody sees it before me, I shall give a detailed review next Sunday evening. :)

Warning: Marwell Dalek, don't read this post if you want Animal Adventure to be a surprise. :P

Okay, so, went to Longleat today again, and had a really great day once again. Me and my group of friends had all forgotten about the hours going back, so we were there from 8:30am, and therefore were the first lot into the park. This also meant that we were so early that there wasn't a keeper there to ask questions to, so there's no news that I could get. I hope someone can find out about the Rhino pregnancy at least. But I'm sad to say, I failed. The Pygmy Goats are still unaccessable, and the Eastern White Pelicans have all been moved to the house opposite the Pink Backed Pelicans, and the Eastern White Pelican's land space in the lake has been fenced off, somewhat permenant looking. I saw the Warthog for the first time, today and the Bongo were nowhere to be seen, but then, I imagine they're well practiced at hiding.

Anywho. Animal Adventure.
To be honest, I think the target of opening it in the 2009 season meant they hadn't filled it properly. Theres a few empty enclosures, and the others are all filled with things that can also be found, or could once be found in Pets Corner, with the exceptions of the Siberian Weasel (who were nowhere to be seen) and Dwarf Mongoose.

The enclosures are: Moluccan Cockatoo, Ferrets, Dwarf Mongoose, Siberian Weasel, Crested Porcupine, Spur Thighed Tortoise, Green Iguana, Guinea Pigs and the Butterfly Garden. The Green Iguana have been moved from Pets Corner, as have half the Ferrets and Guinea Pigs and Crested Porcupine. The Crested Porcupine/Ferret enclosure in Pets Corner is now empty, and the Green Iguana now has an Argentine Tegu in it.

Altogether, I was a bit... let down with the Animal Adventure. It just felt like Pets Corner. I'm sure over the winter though, all the animals will find permenant homes and new species will be introduced. But yeah, definately felt like a rush job.

Having said that, the staff were really what makes the place brilliant. They're everywhere, really helpful and gives you lots of species to have a play with. I held a tarantula for the first time ever today. :)

I shall put pictures in the Gallery, tomorrow.

I held a tarantula for the first time too today, heh heh! :D

Good weather, and good day; not much to add as it would be similar to Huxley's report. The Barn Owls are back in their aviary is the only thing I can really add!

I asked about anteaters, and they hope for them to arrive in AA next season. I was kinda expecting a half-finished feeling, so I hope they can get more space filled and species added for next year. :)

Just thought it gave out the wrong idea given that daleks are evil things; might as well be Marwell Nazi!

So, have they built the enclosure for the anteaters or is that happening over the closed season?

From the photos the new attraction looks okay, I must admit I was expecting a little bit more from it.

I can't see where they would make the anteater enclosure on the current site unless they moved out one of the current inhabitants or created a lengthy enclosure on the back of the site. It's fueled the opinion that they'll be getting tamanduas anyway, anywhere else would be too small for giants.
