Visiting Rotterdam Zoo and have some questions

Hello, we’ve been reading this forum for years but haven’t registered until now.

We are visiting Rotterdam zoo in the Netherlands next month. While we have visited over 70 zoos in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA this will be our first zoo in mainland Europe.

We’ll have one day to look around the zoo will this be enough to see everything?

As previously stated we’ve visited a lot of zoos so we’re most interested in seeing species less commonly exhibited in captivity. So what rarities are at Rotterdam and where are they located in the zoo?

Thank you

One day should be enough, even if you are not very fast.

The mammal highlights would be Black & rufous sengi, which are located in the crocodile house (and I think also in the Gorilla house). Slender loris & Balabac chevrotain are in the Asian house.

In terms of birds there is the Blue-breasted kingfisher in the Okapi aviary, as well as Guillemots and Puffins at the entrance of the Oceanium. Reptilian rarities are (if on display) in the Oceanium building as well.

During my visit this year there was one sengi kept in the Gorilla house, a bit hidden though. They're much easier to see in the Crocodile house.

The zoo Rotterdam is one of the few zoos in Europe, which have a predominantly very high quality animal husbandry and only a few old exhibits. Of course, there is still room for improvement, especially for the two species of rhino, Malayan tapirs and Sumatran Tigers. Even most new exhibits can convince. The Vegetation is fantastic and Rotterdam is definitely one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe. With the Ozeaneum, the zoo also has a very large aquarium. I never manage to make the zoo in one day-but I do not go on any exhibit as soon as I took a picture of the animal and take my time. Therefore, I can really only guess to take advantage of the full day, from opening to closing, especially if you take a break in between and eat there. I never eat in zoos, especially in dutch zoos-I'm not tired of life.:)
