Visiting Zoos With Young Children

What do you mean he in a pm to me they said they were female!!!

:eek: Whoa! Wasn't expecting that... I thought Moebelle was a male, too!

Well, you know what they say: When you assume, it only makes an a-s-s out of u and me. :p

OK, back to the topic!

@devilfish- Although being somewhat a child myself (only in high school), I can't stand school groups. I mean can't stand them. They're loud, they're always running around being disruptive, sometimes they're immature and laugh at things that are natural (I can't lie, though, it is funny at times :)), need I go on? That's why I rather go with my parents instead.

Oh don't get me started on the groups. I won't go into details but there is a "simulated (lame)" shark cage at the Newport Aquarium; and when any group of kids go in it, they scream their heads off when they aren't even really scared.

OK I'll rephrase what I wrote from "I'm assuming Moebelle mis-wrote when he put "you have kids and so do I", because he is certainly a child himself" to:

"I'm assuming Moebelle mis-wrote when she put "you have kids and so do I", because I would assume she is certainly a child herself, given the content of her posts and her frequent tantrums."

It certainly gives her posts new interpretation if she actually is an adult!

Why are you so worried about what my age or gender is?

I'm not worried about it at all. I just assumed you were a male (because a former member with a curiously identical manner of postings was apparently a male) and, in all seriousness, the level of your postings never made me think that you weren't a young child, perhaps around ten to thirteen years of age. So when you wrote earlier in this thread that you do have children I assumed you made a typo and read the post accordingly. If you do actually have children then you certainly have some strange opinions on them!

Newer parent then I guess :p (regarding me)

Without those large groups of screaming children a lot of zoos would be considerably worse of financially. education centres are a huge earner for many zoos. My job involves sleeping overnight with groups of up to 60 school aged children at a zoo i love my job even if they do scream ridiculously at possums at 2am. Kids are the future of conservation, we've screwed up and it will be up to them to ensure the world doesnt continue on its path down the toilet. so what if they are excited and scream occasionally. why is your entrance fee for a few more important than entry for 50. as long as animal welfare isnt impacted then just get over it. they are at the zoo and they are excited. just keep moving and come back later if you dont want to put up with it.

Okay :confused::confused:....

Sorry that wasnt meant as a personal attack. i just get frustrated when people think they have more rights to something than someone else when they clearly dont. we do an activity where we get the kids to reflect on their day and share something they have learnt that day. it always amazes me when 50 kids that dont always seem to be listening come up with a fact that nobody else has said. On every family holiday we go on i find the nearest zoo and load my car with as many of my nieces and nephews as possible. i dont know how they feel but i love it.

I take my 2 year old grandson to the San Diego Zoo at least 2-3 times a month. I also go by myself once a week. The experiences are totally different but equally rewarding. Louis' favorite thing at the zoo is the waterfalls and feeding leaves to the gorilla statues. He insists we visit the reptile house which I never do when I am alone and I am starting to appreciate them. When we get to the exit he says "more zoo, no go". I feel I am creating memories and I hope, a lifetime love of zoos.

I think I can defend myself a bit more now....

I was at the Newport Aquarium a couple of days ago. While we were in line to get tickets three maybe 5 year-old girls were cutting in front of us and wouldn't move (it was our turn), and the mother just laughed while we thought it was very annoying!

By the end we were at the bubble viewing of the main shark tank. There was a VERY immature 10 year-old jumping and dancing inside the bubble.. Can you imagine?!:p
