Notes from today: construction of the African hunting dog exhibit and environs begins on 25th October. If you want to take one last look at the Przewalski horse paddock, walk along the boundary pathway or along the pathway at the back of the cranes, don't delay.

The roan antelope were nowhere to be seen today and the porcupines are off-show too, there was already building work going on in their house.

A higher, scruffy-looking wooden stand-off is being erected on the north-eastern side of the Caribbean flamingo pool. The tidy, built-to-last, straight sandstone wall, such a recognisable feature and part of the fabric of Chester, is being demolished.

According to Chester's Facebook page the porcupunes are inbetween to lechwe and gemsbok now.

It's good to hear that the enclosure for the african wild dogs is coming along at last.

There's been some work in the small house between the lechwe paddock and the paddock where the lone oryx has been for the last few months, so perhaps that's where they mean. If so, they must be confined to an indoor area.

Furthur to the post by SMR yesterday, the flamingo wall has now gone.

The porcupines are in the old emu/wallaby shelter across from the gemsbok.

The great grey owls and hawk owls are back in their respective aviaries, the other aviaries on the west side of the path are still empty.

The new male wrinkled hornbill is in with the female and the brown-throated barbets have been moved and now occupy an aviary on the upper floor also housing chestnut-backed thrushes and what seemed to be a single socorro dove, couldn't get a clear view of this bird.

The path between the canal and the fountain gardens was being relaid.

Didn't see the anteater even though I made four visits.

Took a last look at the old horse enclosure before it is redeveloped. I intended to photograph the seat where I used to eat my sandwiches many years ago but it had already gone.
