Chester Zoo Visits Autumn

Does this mean Chester have finally achieved an all-Rothschild herd or have I forgotten one?

As far as I know they have. I don't usually visit that part of the zoo. Surprisingly I am near the Cheetahs and big(not so big in the Servals cases lol) cats but I remember people saying that when those two leave it will be a pure Rothschild herd.

(Touch wood!) Chester now have a pure herd of Rothschild (Baringo) Giraffe

Yay :D.

On a side-note, and this is going to sound like an odd question, but does anybody know if there are any 'non ABC' pregnancies/recent births @ the zoo? If so, could anybody list some? Just things like birds, herps, mongooses, hoofstock etc. (Also, for things like herps and birds could you put a little sidenote for any that are off-show, maybe just an * next to the name?) Thanks, I know I ask too much :p

If I was forced to say I would guess the Dwarf Mongoose's have yet more kids. The female got fat quickly and on my last visit she was back to her usual size. However Her and the male and both slightly older kids were out of the den so it is only a guess at this point.

Ahh cool, I'll be on the lookout when I go in December :).

As I say its just a guess but it was the same pattern as with the current young ones. I should be going tomorrow or Friday so will try and get confirmation then but there one of the hardest to tell.

The baby has been named 'Tula,' beating Zafi by one vote :(.

However, the name Zafi and Aisha (3rd) are being used as names for a pair of wild Rothschild calves discovered in Kenya.

Well done, name a giraffe after a range of handbags.

For once I would have thought common sense would prevail and they would choose the name themselves. Not rely on the public.

Javan I have had it confirmed today that the Dwarf Mongoose's have had yet more babies. As of yet they are still in the den but have been brought out once. They are expected to be bought out more and more in around a week or two. Also I saw a baby in the house for the Eastern Pygmy and Black Tailed Marmosets. I can only guess it was a Black Tailed as it was at the top of the enclosure at the back.

Also the path from the Rhino house towards the Zebra's etc is now closed while they are working in that area. You can walk so you can see the outside paddock.

And while there the zoo were working at the edge of the near the exit of the Monorail station near the Monkeys. They were also working on the Rhino enclosure that you see when you drive in.

Thanks for the updates Cheetah Fan :). My next visit is a week on Saturday, and will be the first day of my first membership :D. Hopefully the mongooses will be out a little more by then :).

They will be being carried by mum or dad. The only time they have been seen yet they still had there eyes closed.
