Chester Zoo Visits Winter

Radiated Tortoises have bred in the past, there seems to be no reason why the mating you saw will not be successful.

As far as I know 5 pouched rats have been born this year, but it could well be more.

Yep and they were very active this morning chasing each other around there enclosure. Photos to follow shortly :)

I'll edit and attach a few pics a little later when I've got a few converted :) (though I had a really bad day photography wise :mad:).

Here's one of my photo's of one of the new Golden Headed Lion Tamarins. When ever I go near the Miniature Monkeys I am always amazed and to see three of these running around after each other was fun(if annoying for photos lol) even in the cold of today.

I was told by a keeper during my Saturday Visit that there is atleast 2 young in the current Gambian Pouched Rat litter... They seemed quite large, so I presume they were born in November.
 
Three bits of news from my visit today -

1) the Dwarf Mongoose are currently off show(Have been since at least Saturday) due to ground works occurring where the nest box should be. They had the tunnels open open but the Green tunnel is blocked off just after the tunnel exit. The path near the Vets story building was blocked due to the Mini excavator they were using.

2) The toilet building near the Jaguars lawn is now no more. I have no idea what will be going on that spot but the building was being totally demolished today. (Photo Attached)

3) Asha and Iblis were getting x rated today so on that front its looking very good for cubs sometime in the near future.

Great news about Asha and Iblis i really do hope these to hit it off it certainly sounds like it i hope they breed as it looks as Asha is showing her age:(

Hope you are joking!!!! There is a toilet block right next to the old one and a play area a few metres away... I hope the area is cleared to make way for a new enclosure - although nothing planned for next year at least if the space is cleared it will be ready to be built on in the future. We know the coatis have not worked in with the bears I think they would work very well in that space as a lead in to Jaguars keeping a South Anerican theme going.

That's why I said it ZooGiraffe. Those toilets must be 40 years old or more. I think they will build new ones on the same site. The toilets Chesterfan posted about have been there for many years, I'm guessing even before Spirit of the Jaguar was open.

Mid to late 1950s... and today they are no more.

Worth noting if you're fit to burst, is that the temporary-style toilets in the right of the second image are also closed at the moment.

Some bird movements today, including additions to the old Arara aviary and the tragopan aviaries. I'll need to find my notes regarding species as neither are labelled.

Also certain keepers (you know who you are) continue to tease me with stories of Pedro the giant anteater actually being in the outside enclosure, although never when I'm actually in the area. ;)

Follow-up: in the old aviaries on the Rainbow Lawn (Arara Lawn) are grey-cheeked liocichla (Liocichla omeiensis) and in the aviary with the Temminck's tragopan, collared grosbeak (Mycerobas affinis), both currently unlabelled.
