Chester Zoo Warthogs and Camels

Hey, just a few questions here.

1. What is the current situation with Chester's Warthogs? ISIS lists 1.1 so are they a pair? I haven't seen them out in the exhibit for nearly a year...

2. What happened to Chester's large group of camels? I seem to remember about 6 in the old camel house a few years ago, but they are down to just the two females now.

Thanks

They moved the male camels out because they weren't sure whether they'd be aggressive to the onagers, I think, and as onagers are rarer, it makes sense to try and breed them.

Warthogs; the female was out last May, but I haven't seen them recently either. Maybe they're inside being integrated together with each other the Banded mongooses.

They have integrated them all, the warthogs tend to spend most of their time right near the back of the exhibit.

Will chester ever bring in a male for their camels?

Its such a shame Chesters down to just the two females, maybe they could bring in some older females to give the other two company. As for the warthogs i've only seen them a few times in general, they and the mongooses only seem to be out haf the time.

Chester will not be having a male camel, instead they plan to send the females away to be mated. A male camel would not be a good idea to put in with the onagers.

They hope to obtain more female camels.

The logs in the onager enclosure were placed there to stop the camels getting too close to the public. The onagers can get over them.

Thats Chester for you always changing the plans but last i heard the plans for new exhibits this year has stayed the same.

Not at all! I think Chester is now taking the sensible option.

They may have learned from an experience in Rotterdam Zoo. Their Mongolian exhibit held breeding groups of camels and onagers. However, when the onager stallion was in at rumpus with his females he had an altercation with the camels. End result: 1 camel killed.

Since that fateful day they have created separate yards with big boulders. That seems to have stopped the antagonism.

Will that be the Cheetahs and the start of construction on the new Aquarium or is there more?
No the Aquariums on hold,Cheetahs are happening as are an aviary near the Black Rhino for Southern Ground Hornbill and a Butterfly House not a clue where thats going.

Im not that fussed about the aquarium to be honest, fish dont interest me a lot and i've ony been to the aquarium on a few occasions.

I love some of the species being housed Off show in the aquarium. More Arowanas, Turtles and loads of other really unusual fish.

The zoo needs another aquarium, so I'm asking the same question as Jimmy?

What's the reason for the postponement of the new aquarium?

As I understand it, the zoo is holding off on big projects until it can start Phase I of the SuperZoo (whichever area that turns out to be, different people seem to be hearing different things). Last date I heard was to have Phase I open in 2011. Because the major planning effort going into that, the zoo has switched to a pattern of more smaller projects for the next couple of years.

It could also be financial - a massive Aquarium is an expensive thing to build, even for a zoo with 1.2m visitors.

I'd imagine phase 1 will be the forest zone, as they have built Realm of the Red Ape and Spirit of the Jaguar in the recent past and they mentioned the forest zone in a guide book from 2002.

No the forest zone will not be first as that cotains at least 3 huge bi-omes going up in it,last i heard it was most likely be the arrid lands been done first as this was also the cheapest of the zones to build.
