"Not only is Earth in the middle of its next mass extinction event, but it may be too late to undo the harm inflicted upon the planet’s species. This is according to a new study assessing evidence of what it calls an “ongoing extinction event.”

The study was published in Biological Reviews, and conducted by biologists from the University of Hawaii and the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris. While researchers say that conservation initiatives have been put in place to combat the crisis and protect certain species, the study suggests that the damage has already been done."

I disagree. We can stop most, if not all, of the coming extinctions if we try hard enough. We should not and cannot give up so easily.

This kind of talk is just what certain politicians and political factions would want to further undermine conservation and preservation efforts.

Yes, we will unfortunately not be able to prevent further biodiversity loss or all further extinctions, but that does not we mean we should just up and not continue trying to preserve as much as possible. We won't stop all of it, and too much has sadly already been lost, but there is a lot left we might be able to save and coexist with.

That said, reading even just the abstract of the study, I am seeing a very different tone and message than what the media are making of this.
