To me seems misinformed and ridiculous.

Maybe they mean it as "Zoo's like ours exist to save animals from extinction"? or Zoologists maybe?? Rather than the general human race...

Ofcourse there is a handfull of species saved by zoos.. but to make that statement is a 'little' overdone and not exaggerated in my opinoin.
