Website maps yes or no

I was visiting a few websites this morning looking for new zoo's to visit and to my surprise many sites had actually got no maps of the layout of the zoo on.
I find this very fustrating as surely this would help get more people through the turn styles if they actually put the maps on the sites.
do you think if they were to put the maps on the websites then more people would visit the zoo or do you think that some zoo's/parks don't bother because they think it puts people off visiting.

I don't know the answer to your question, but here are a couple of thoughts:
I doubt whether many of the summer visitors to Paignton ('my' zoo) even look at the website. The zoo is just on the list of things to do.
Maybe zoos prefer people to buy a guide book rather than print off a map from their website.

I like having zoos having maps on their websites, it helps to plan your route and what you want to see when easily, I'm the kind of person who has to have a planned route at a zoo, so I find a online map very helpful. Also, it saves the cost of a guide book.

I'm exactly the same, except I buy a guide book anyway as a souveneir. :)

There is a facility on the web for the blocking of the printing of certain images, if the zoo's were to use this facility then there wouldn't be a problem.
Just e-mailled Blackpool Zoo as they have no map on there website and I would like to thank them for there very quick reply.
They are updating there website and a map of the zoo will now be put on the site as it was an oversite of there's
Many thanks to them.
Has anyone else had any joy with there e-mails to zoo's or do you find that some don't bother to reply to your queries.

I agree maps are a handy thing to have, however I'd just need directions on how to get there (by public transport! argh!) as well as a full list of critters.

In Australia they give a map or two for free when you pay to enter...Isn't this the case in the UK?

I still like zoos to have a map on their website though and I am a big fan of the interactive maps that are becoming more and more popular these days. :)

I find the smaller zoo's much better at replying to questions. And usually within a day or two.

I find Blackpool zoo's staff very friendly and helpful and is always a pleasure to visit.

Most zoos over here do give you a free map on entry but some zoos like Port Lympne make you pay about 60-70 pence for one, well that was the case when I lasted visited. I think thats a little bit of a rip-off as you have already paid a great deal to enter the park you at least expect them to provide you with a map.

Sorry about rejuvenating this thread but does anyone know where I can get a scanned map of Blackpool Zoo or if anyone has the time to scan and send me a copy I would be very grateful.

Edit please P/M me for e-mail address

Yes it was me - I scanned it from their guidebook and uploaded it precisely because I couldn't find a map of the zoo anywhere online, including their website. Good to know they'll be rectifying that soon.

Having said that it's not the most user friendly zoo map in the world - it takes too long to find things when you have to cross reference small symbols from one page to another...
