Just came across some videos of the WMZ back when it first opened.

This final clip isnt from the zoo inself. i have a feeling that this was taken before it became a zoo because the curator is said to be someone other then Bob Jackson. Also i have a feeling that the zoo opened after '65. but its interesting footage showing the zoo grounds such as the old reptile house in the background.

I knew Rob Allan who appears in this clip but he had left the zoo by the time I worked there (1978-1985) and had a local kennel business. He had a trained Golden Eagle which he used to fly locally. This was certainly taken when the zoo was open and Leonard de Bastide? was I believe the first curator. Robert Jackson was the owner and director.

Wow what a brilliant site, i've spent hours looking at the different zoos. Most of the contact the Keepers had with their animals is alarming.

Yeah i saw that one. I work at the WMZ (well in the holiday seasons as im at uni :P) and since working became quite interested in the zoos past. I think it was after watching a "time may change us" TV programme showing all the jackson brothers agueing on what animal to have next (Nick wanting pigs and Chris wanting penguins) it also showed one of the elephants, and also some cougar in the exibit that the snow leopards are now in.

What other animals do you remember in what enclosures?
