Yes I am planing a zoo, but I am very and very far from realizing in total. Main reason, money, and maybe a life experience, since I am 28.

So is the Zoochatter here in the UK who is about to open a fully-licenced zoo after years of careful planning and paying heed to the advice of those more experienced than himself :p

But I wanted to check locations of zoos at a particular radius of the Greifswald.

Which is precisely what you *can* do with the tool in question. For instance, this is the result if one searches for a radius of 50km:

Sorry to be brusque, but I would really appreciate this thread not to be hijacked and digress to another fantasy zoo scenario. Thank you.

The short TV clip was shown yesterday and brought me 20 paying customers today. Let's see what tomorrow's TV show and the newspaper article will achieve.

Exhausting, but promising. Since the original opening on the 22nd of July, more than 70 people have visited the "Welt der Gifte". I pretty much spent every evening there showing people around. Feedback was very positive (Nikolas will probably accuse me of whitewashing again). The TV spot definitely helped to increase public interest, at least locally. I've contributed about 150 vouchers to the four most prominent local tourist centres. Furthermore, I'm going to pick up my advertising posters this week and set them up at relevant touristic places, including both zoos

A review of current activities:
So far, the progress since the initial opening has been OK. Except for one week without any bookings and visitors, I've been booked at least twice a week. Most visitors are families with kids, folks from work and interested senior citizens. The newspaper article published this Monday also helped to attract more public attention; let's see how long this will last. In regard to PR, I really have to keep at it; spent the whole Saturday accompanied by my kids rushing from one touristic attraction to another updating my presentation there.
Already had some nice visitor experiences: one little boy asked to "pet the cobra again" - which turned out to be the friendly little Western hognose snake I keep as part of the "touch & feel" education part. This snake is also really popular among younger women and deemed to be, I quote, "super cute" due to its snub nose.
When educated about the toxicity of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), a gentleman, who apparently likes to eat a lot, wondered whether his regular consumption of more than half a nutmeg to his scrambled eggs might be the reason of him not feeling well afterwards. Well, I wouldn't exclude it - and was almost tempted to give him Louis De Fines' recipe for potato souffle. ;)
Another asked whether I could videocast the feeding of the larger snakes such as the gaboon viper to "please the fanbase" of people who like to watch snakes being fed.
The gila monsters are great crowd pleasers, and so are the large Crotalus basiliscus and the gaboon viper.

Glad to here everything's going well. I have a few questions if you don't mind answering.

Will a proper zoochat gallery be added for "Walter Der Gifte" (World of Poison)?
If so, would you mind uploading photos of the facility to the gallery?
Apologies if you stated this elsewhere, but are any venomous mammals in your collection?

@pachyderm pro: your typing error inspired me to name one of the more aggressive scorpions "Walter" (Sobchak or White).:D;)
- Sure, if any of the moderators is game.
- I could; and the visiting ZooChatters could also add their photos.
- Only as exhibits. Live solenodonts or a male platypus are out of reach. Venomous shrew species and European moles are short-lived, labour-intensive and not the easiest species to showcase. Maned rats are hard to get. The current rooms do not allow the adequate housing of slower loris, vampire bats or skunks without the neighbours rebelling. I could "squeeze in" African hedgehogs or lesser tenrecs, but at the moment I'd rather tend to acquiring a giant cane toad instead as the next addition.

We don't actually have the power to create galleries unfortunately; only the administrators do. I'll post a request in the relevant thread for you, and hopefully jobalba will get around to it soon :)

Regarding ticket sales: about 50 paying clients. Almost the same number visited on the opening day.

Once again: please refrain from thread hijacking. If you want to discuss ophiophobia, please do it in a thread on its own.

Lesson of today: small (the youngest and calmest one was 7 weeks old) and hyperactive children + tired parents + rooms full of toxic critters) = quite an experience. Apparently fatherhood is a good preliminary practice for such challenges. ;) Nevertheless, mission accomplished; despite several attempts, no glass was broken and no one got bit / stung / swallowed anything toxic.

Excellent :) how does this compare to the numbers you hoped to achieve at this point?

To be fair, the topic of ophiophobia is a lot more on-topic than the previously-discussed fantasy posts which briefly hijacked this thread, given the fact there is some crossover between your aim of educating the public about toxins in general and the fact that one of the biggest factors contributing to ophiophobia is a lack of understanding *about* snakes and their venom. However, the conversation has moved on from this topic anyhow, so the issue is no longer relevant :p
