Despite all the preparations, prior analyses and considerations, I can't foretell whether this is going to work. If it doesn't work out, I will keep most of the animals as part of my private collection and sell the educational items. If I can just even out my expenses, then that's OK, too. And if it turns out to be a good business, a future expansion is the next step.

[Sigh]
Now for those impatient species list nerds, here's a list of the currently kept species.
Just be aware of one thing: once your network works, obtaining specimens often isn't a problem; housing them adequately is. Most of the specimens (even the venomous ones) are donations from private citizens, chummy breeders or reptile shelters.

Snakes:

Agkistrodon contortix and A. taylori
Aspidelaps lubricus lubricus
Bitis gabonica
Cerastes cerastes
Crotalus basilicus (>2m long)
Crotalus cerberus
Crotalus ornatus
Crotalus pyrrhus
Crotalus vegrandis
Vipera ammodytes
Vipera berus

...as well as several species of Lampropeltis, Pantherophis and Euprepiophis mandarinus

Lizards
Heloderma suspectum

Amphibians
Dendrobates leucomelas
Dendrobates tinctorius "azureus"
Incilius alvarius

Spiders
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens
Latrodectus hasselti, mactans & obscurior
Lasiodora parahybana
Loxosceles rufescens

Scorpions
Hadrurus arizonensis
Hadogenes bicolor
Leiurus quinquestriatus
Parabuthus villosus

Centipede
Scolopendra subspinipes

A few more (among others Corydoras sterbai, Phyllobates terribilis and Pleurodeles waltl) will be added soon. I was supposed to have Oxyuranus microlepidotus and a Naja species on show, but unfortunately one specimen died and the others are still in quarantine at another owner.

The species are chosen for their adaptability to captivity, representative qualities, conformation to the local husbandry conditions, available space, expenditure of work and individual characters. That's why I refrain from currently exhibiting species such as kraits, king cobra, freshwater stingrays or slower loris. As for maritime poisonous fish and other poisonous aquatic creatures: the closeby large public aquarium is already exhibiting such animals. Therefore, I utilize models, artefacts and biologics instead.

A most excellent day, that may also happen to be my birthhday ;)

But regardless, I can offer nothing but the deepest of congratulations to you! You are truly doing what many people can only aspire towards.

Happy Birthday @Hyak_II

Add my congrats, as you did something many zoochatter's dream about, but many fail to accomplish. Could someone link the website please? I am anxious to check it out :).

Quite a busy week so far: gave an interview on the exhibition to the local newspaper the other day. This morning, starting at 4 am, the NDR (North German TV channel) sent in a team to film a little documentary for the local news section. Despite the popular film adage “Never work with children or animals', all critters were on their best behavior - even the notoriously shy black widows. Later today, the president of the institute I work for is going to pay me a visit (most of the snakes still suck at dropping a curtsy). Tours for Thursday and Sunday are already booked up (thanks to the awful rainy weather). And Friday afternoon, the local TV channel wants to join the fun, too. :D

I was interested whether in Greifswald, in the town or nearby - let say at 20 km radius, there is an existent open zoo or another simmilar collection/s like yours Batto. Also, is your collection already registered in Zootierliste.

Just use the Zoo radius search option on Zootierliste to answer your questions, Nikola...
ZootierlisteHomepage
...and what is an "open zoo"?
I checked, but the radius search is for a particular species of animal. Anyway, I found a Greifswald Tierpark a small zoo, and Greifswald Welt der Gifte as listed on Zootierliste.
Open zoo - a zoo not totaly in a building like an indoor terrarium, and with outdoor enclosures and generaly , and of course, bigger in surface than an all-in-a-building zoo.- Is it OK/

I can use the radius without searching for a specific species just fine, the only thing I have to do is to not fill up the species option.

Congratulations Batto!

If you find out that Germany has not enough interest in learning about venomous animals, despite all this global warming, you can branch out to presenting native herps and big inverts and their protection; or to present people how to keep terrarium pets responsibly.

Then you didn't check it out properly, as correctly pointed out by ZT FR.
But I wanted to check locations of zoos at a particular radius of the Greifswald.
That's precisely what you can do with said search tool.

Do you actually consider me to be that silly and naive to not have included such market studies long ago in my planning phase? :/

So an "open zoo" is just another regular zoo, at least according to your definition.
I fail to understand the Germany / Russia reference.

Thanks Jurek7. However, I do not see myself in the thematic alternatives you suggest.
