Ok thanks but just something was mentioned about building behind the Hippo area!
How many hippo do they have now? Their breeding bull died right?

Harry died in 2013.
They have 0.5 Common Hippopotamus.
Primrose (F) B 1990
Brindabella (F) B 1990
Tulip (F) B 2003
Lotus (F) B 2008
Pansy (F) B 2013
They are all offspring of Harry. Tulip and Lotus are the daughters of Primrose, and Pansy is the daughter of Brindabella.
Do you know what combinations they're kept in?
the females at Werribee are kept in mother/daughter groups of Primrose, Tulip and Lotus; and Brindabella and Pansy.
A Bison was born this morning. Unsure of who the mother is.
How many lions do Werribee currently have?
How many White Rhino do Werribee currently have?
They have 3.4 Southern white rhinoceros:
Herd One:
1.0 Leeroy - born 1980 at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
0.1 Make - born 1984 (approx) at Kruger National Park
Herd Two:
1.0 Umgana - born 1988 (approx) at Kruger National Park
0.1 Letaba - born 1992 (approx) at Kruger National Park
0.1 Sisi - born 1996 (approx) at Kruger National Park
Herd Three:
1.0 Kifaru - born 2009 at Hamilton Zoo
0.1 Kipenzi - born 2013 at Werribee Open Range Zoo
Additional notes/info:
Make is the mother of Sisi; Sisi is the mother of Kipenzi. Sisi has given birth to five calves. The first three died; and the other two were removed for hand rearing. One was Kipenzi; the other was born in December 2014 and died later that month of a bacterial infection.
Letaba gave birth to a male calf named Ganini in 2002. He was the first Southern white rhinoceros born at Werribee; and has since moved to Australia Zoo, where he has sired five calves.
The current breeding pair at Werribee are Kifaru and Kipenzi. Kifaru’s father is one of the most successful breeding bulls in the region, siring seven calves to three cows. Kifaru’s mother has only bred twice, but her daughter is due to give birth to her first calf next month.
Thanks for that. Did Make and Letaba have any other calves?
Werribee have said they are open to the possibility of introducing Kifaru to Letaba and Sisi for breeding; though the current focus is on breeding Kifaru with Kipenzi.
I guess it would be worthwhile using hormonal treatment and getting the bull in with the older females. It does - somehow - not make sense not to ..... (and have done so previously given that one wild born female has so little representation anyhow). The current focus is on breeding Kifaru and Kipenzi. Though, there is still hope in the meantime that Umgana will breed with Sisi and Letaba.
Letaba is represented quite well through her son, Ganini (DJ) at Australia Zoo, who has 6 children, with one of his daughters breeding at Monarto Zoo. Whilst Sisi, is only represented through her daughter (Kipenzi).

Zoos VictoriaYesterday was a difficult day for keepers and vets at Werribee Open Range Zoo, who said a very sad goodbye to Jarrah the Lioness.
At age 19, she was a very elderly lion and had a number of age-related health issues, but nonetheless, she was strong and graceful until the end.
Born at Melbourne Zoo in 2000, Jarrah moved to her new home at Werribee Open Range Zoo when she was four, along with her mother Jespah and Aunty Gopah.
Majestic and charismatic her whole life, perhaps her most lasting legacy will be the memories of her stirring vocalisations, which will be missed, but never forgotten.
Thank you to all who admired and cared for Jarrah, either as a zoo keeper or from afar. Sleep well, Jarrah.
Jarrah the lioness was put to sleep yesterday at the age of 19. From the zoo's Facebook page:
