That is...interesting news. Both Jack and Tooth are now proven natural breeders, however both are still very genetically valuable and in breeding situations at the moment. Jack would make the most sense since he has a young daughter living with him at Sosto. Curious where they'll source the females from!Had final tour today, key things to note
- Elephants are in the new house and will be released in a few days. They were transported in crates and left to acclimatise. Paddock is lovely and the deep pools are everywhere, just needs to grow a little and will be an icon in the site. Fencing in the same style as noahs ark and has fire grass and the low wire (Same in the old paddock). Sutton will leave in approximately 10 years with a the new male coming from wmsps 2 loaned males. Females are on list but unsure when they will arrive , just following EEP's advice at this time
The enclosure looks far smaller than the old enclosure. I'm not sure the elephants will appreciate it. Is it really as small as it looks?
Thanks for clearing that up. I've not seen any decent pictures of the main enclosure yet so I wasn't too sure how it was all layed out.The lodges view the females 24 hour pen which is smaller than the publics reserve view. In total the paddocks all equate to around 7 or 8 acres . Hard to tell as there's no satellite view.
Bintarong since last time that I understand the Bongos are coming to West Midland Safari Park and I do believe this is them![]()
That would be amazing indeedI was originally told this was the plan, however on my most recent tour I was told majority the plans have been shelved.
Bactrian Camels have moved into the area and will remain as the 'Borderlands' as the site has one of the largest breeding herds in Europe (according to staff) and want to contribute to the global rewilidng effort. Things can change and hopefully the bongos will arrive. Currently however with the current finical situation and moving of animals it looks unlikely.
- Mark o shear's is being demolished in the future as he is not connected to the looping group. Majority of large reptiles have already left the collection along with the addax, gemsbok and Majority of the cape buffalo, just the male and female left.
loopy group perhaps?
Did whoever told you this, @bintarong, give any indication on what's going to be built where the reptile house stood?
Either way, it's a bloody shame - that was one of the best reptile houses in the UK.
The reason why I asked is, if it's some new exhibit, I'll understand (like the Amur leopard exhibit became the lorikeet walkthrough) - somebody did mention red pandas... is this where they're being kept?
'Mavis'- 11th of August 2003Does anyone know dates of birth for the hippos Mavis, Helen and Hilary?
