yes, they may bring the crowds in, but would you really travel for miles to see another set of pointless white lion cubs, if they've been constantly breeding them for the last 2 years anyway.

personally, i think the adults should be steralised, they've been bred from, so theres no need to carry on breeding from them. the safari park should put their efforts into breeding the african leopard (when and if she gets a mate)and the amur leopards now to boost their numbers.

white lions and tigers are well known in zoos now, they dont really impress me no-more, they seemed to have lost their appeal and wow factor

No, I wouldn't go and see them again. But they are the only ones in the UK, so people will keep coming to see them if there's cubs. They should be on contraceptives or something though, and so should the tigers.
The African leopard is quite old, so she won't be breeding. Hope they don't breed the Amur's in their current enclosure...

they have a white male lion at paradise wildlife park, so a female could go there, but preferably on contraceptives!!

how old is the african leopard anyway, she must be the only one in the uk anyway? surely there must be a demand for them in european zoos?

also....arent all of the white tigers off one breeding pair? didnt the safari park import 2 pairs in, but only bred off one?

have all the white tiger cubs stayed at the park? are they all within the same reserve? if so there must be some fighting between them, living in such large number? there must be about 10 at least there by now!

Yeah, the big male lion (Rolo) is being kept inside on alternate days at the moment as he fights with the younger male (Casper). I think someone told me the leopard was about 15. Not sure though. He said she used to do commercials and that for TV.

is Rolo the adult male or another male born at the park? I know Casper was one of the first litter so i doubt any following cubs would be much bigger than him.

I would hazard a guess that the leopard came from Santago (the collection being broken up after the owner's death). Is there any proof that she is actually pure-bred African, or is it easier to refer to her as African to complement the rest of the big 5?

The Leopard is about 15 and can we stop calling it an African Loepard because its about as pure as a Liger is to been a pure Tiger or Lion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Rolo is the adult male white lion, father to all the cubs.

Is there still only the 2 male cape buffalo at the park?? I remember watchin the safari park tv show and they had the head keeper coming back from picking up a species of rare deer, i think it was an Alfred's spotted deer. Does anyone know if they are actually in the main drive-in park and if so which part are they kept in?? I would have thought something that rare may have been kept in a safe fenced enclosure away from the possibility of being run over

I think the spotted deer are in either the asian reserve or the eurasian reserve...

West Midlands has three male and two female Cape Buffalo last time i checked ISIS...

It seems from ISIS there is 2 male and 2 female phillipine spotted deer does anyone know if there has been any born at the park or are those 4 the breeding group?? Where did the extra male and 2 female cape buffalo come from?

1.1 Phillipine spotted deer were born at the park.

White lions at WMSP

I don't know if this has already been reported but I see that with 2 litters of white lions - 6 in total - they now have 19 white lions - 'thought to be the largest pride of pure bred White lions in captivity ' - their quote .

I wonder what they are going to do with so many of them . I don't suppose they will give them away . Could they be pure specimens of whatever subspecies of lion originates from South Africa I wonder . They are probably very in-bred though that does not appear to be affecting breeding results .

Yes the White Lions are pure members of the sub species Panthera leo krugeri.

See i know first time round, breeding the white lions was to raise the profile of the place a bit, but to breed them again.... WHY?!

Its so frustrating!!

Why breed a genetically useless animal in captivity several times over?? No zoo in the UK will touch white lions with a barge pole, the only place they could go to is Africa where they will all be related to the white lions there.

I think this breeding is just taking it a step far. I presume the 3rd original white lioness is pregnant, so that will take the pride into the 20's...POINTLESS!!

It would actually make more sense if other collections began switching over to the same subspecies, then the whites at WMSP would become far more valuable in conservation terms. Sure, you'd end up with loads more white lion cubs, but at least it would be the start of some direction with african lions populations in the UK. I would even prefer to see prides of krugeri lions even with several white animals to the 'barbary' hybrids at PL and belfast.
