West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West Midlands Safari Park news 2025

Three Sumatran tigers born on the 17th January 2025 to Douga and Nakal - second litter for the pair.

Fantastic! Hell of a way to start 2025 for the park.

Is lestari still at there?

There's been no word yet on if she's moved or not. Odds are she's been moved to a different paddock, even in the drive through area next to the other tigers. Or more likely behind the scenes.

But given Dourga's now had a new litter, the park will have to move Lestari sooner to keep with how tigers naturally mature and leave their mothers. Assuming she's old enough to be okay on her own now.

The park has completed this years stocktaking. There is 109 species of over 1000 animals. Last year, all new babies names, started with the letter "m". This years babies names will start with the letter "n".
I will find what is to be in 10 years' time interesting no doubt ;)
Unless there'll be a smattering of Xaviers and such

It is also be tough to imagine a larger variety of Q, U,and Y names if they have a massive number of babies when their letters' respective years come.

They'll probably turn more to names in other languages for help.

I will admit, I'd be laughing my head off if they go for names from other media such as QiQi, Yomiya, Yor, Qingyi, Qinque, Zhongli etc. But I doubt any of those names will ever be picked lol.

thats very quick as lestari is only 18 months old i believe. there is or was a spare cage in the drive thru on the right side of the sleeping quarters

She was born 4th of July 2023, so yeah she's not even 2 years old.

But having said that, female tigers have been known to leave their mothers a lot earlier than males. But usually it's 3 years old you have tiger cubs being forced away by their mothers.

Can anyone tell me what reptiles the zoo is currently keeping?

A couple of notes from a visit yesterday:

  • Now the Cheetah Viewpoint is open, the African Walking Trail has been connected to the path between Tiger Tropics and the refurbished (and very smart-looking) hippo enclosures
  • Dourga has access to the holding pen, seemingly the cubs would have the ability to go outside as well but aren’t yet of the age where they’d leave the den
  • The new painted dog enclosure on the African Walking Trail is currently empty and undergoing refurbishment, including an expansion to the house
