It looks like the Weston Seaquarium is closing. I can't find anything on line but it was mentioned on the local news.

Oh goodness! I'm rather shocked... That's my local aquarium.

What a shame for the locals - it's also pretty cool architecturally.

It must be prey unique as an animal attraction, occupying it's own pier.

I think it's even more important than that, I remember reading in the first guidebook that it was the first pier to be built in Britain in close to a century.

Uncertain future for Weston’s SeaQuarium

A spokesman for Weston SeaQuarium said: “Due to ongoing financial difficulties, we can confirm all employees at SeaQuarium Weston are going through a redundancy consultation process.

“This is a private and confidential process and we will not be making any further comment until the consultation period has ended.

“No decision has been made regarding the future of SeaQuarium Weston.

I don't know who the owners are but there is another seaquarium in Rhyl

I think west mids use to own that one too perhaps they sold both of them on , mind u they been sold themselves

Rhyl seems unaffected. I can't quite believe how quick all reference to Weston was removed from Seaquarium websites. It was pretty much instantaneous.

Of Weston super Mare I have two places: The Aquarium, Marine Lake, Weston super Mare, North Somerset BS23 1BE (currently closed); and Sea Life Center, Marine Parade, Weston super Mare, North Somerset BS23 1BE GREAT BRITAIN. Have they been in exactly the same place? that is, Sea Life Center has occupied the Aquarium building when it closed?

I've never heard of a Sea Life centre in Weston. The addresses you provide are the same so maybe there was a Sea Life on the site before it became Seaquarium.

Rhyl was certainly a Sea Life Centre when it first opened and for a number of years, before changing ownership and branding to SeaQuarium. Its probably a reasonable assumption that Weston was the same.

It did originally used to be a Sea Life Centre back in the day, but Merlin sold it off along with many other Centres about 10-15 years ago. :)
