What animals are being threatened by climate change?

I doubt that the polar bears are going to survive this. The pack ice in certain areas has all but melted all year round so depriving these animals of seal pups that are a staple diet.
Either these bears change there hunting characteristics super quick or they will only be seen in books.

poor polar bears, just makes me really think, we basically have to care for other species concerning climate change, or else, there will be no other species that will be effected except for us, its hard to explain clearly,

Loosing any species has a domino effect on everything else.
Its like taking bricks out of a wall. Eventually the wall will collapse.

Thanks, that was the message I was kinda trying to get out, I'm bad with describing sometimes,

A number of studies are suggesting that temperate plants will suffer badly as temperatures rise. Warm zone plants will, of course, spread and prosper.
Animals - such as pandas - "tied" to plants will suffer next.

Then the rest of the ecosystems tied to them. And if oceans do indeed rise, many coastal species may suffer if they cannot adapt to new coasts. If seagrass and other coastal habitats decline, many marine species who use them as nurseries will decline. As will the predators that depend on them. The polar bears are my lesser concern. As long as there is ice and prey some will survive. Pandas are far more tightly limited I think.

We could go on and on

Although the last time polar bears saw warmer temperatures, they didn't have 6 billion humans rushing to build seaside condos in their hunting territory. Or oil explorers. Or mining engineers. The past is not identical to the future

Taking about oceans. If the oceans temperature changes by two or three degrees the currents will change meaning the world’s climates will be alter. This would affect all fauna and flora worldwide.
Imagine the extinction of species then?

I'm hoping it won't happen at all, but it is unavoidable, over 99.99% of creatures that ever lived are now extinct, they will need a whole lot more decimals,,, :(

Thats true to an extent but how many million dollar condos do you see on the Northern most coast of Arkhangelsk Island..? I think Polar Bears are affected a lot less by human encroachment than almost any other large mammal you can name...

People buy into the Global Warming hype far too quickly and how are governments responding..? Using the issue to add more taxes (on pollution) will not reducing other taxes (income tax, etc) and doing little about the problem...

While climate change is real and mainly man made at the moment it is being used as a fear driven tool, this fear driven tool is being used to loosen the money from our pockets...

With the new government in the US maybe it will be more sensible than the last and sign the document encouraging limiting air pollutants??

I sure hope so that they act on enviomental proposals, though I guess their main concern is the world's finacial crisis,

I rather agree with Jeremy's last post that this issue - like every issue - is used by some to take money from others. Here in the U.S., EVERYTHING seems to come down to that!

But in the U.S., we've had a government that for at least 6 years insisted that there was no global warming and that, even if there were, it is not caused by humans.(The Republican Vice Presidential candidate recently repeated this line.) They saw the issue as simply bad for business and were willing to let the current status quo continue so business interests (and Americans love for big big cars with one person in them) could continue no matter what the damage. Here, the government raids our pockets to support the financial service giants, insurance companies, hedge funds, car manufacturers all of whom have been the powerhouse behind the exploitation and polluting of the planet

Perhaps in NZ it is a different story? Perhaps the government there shouts about global warming, raises taxes to somehow do something, and yet does nothing about it?

Well, from the conversations I have read, which is more approriate for this, term wise? Like Global Warming or Climate Change. I would vote for climate change.

Wow, you've captured my thoughts on the subject nearly perfectly. Well said.

Interestintg article in the Economist article about the Kathmandu valley which relies upon one glacier for its water source. I don't know much about the valley except that it is a green haven which would otherwise be a rocky barren moonlike place similar to valleys nearby that don't have a water source. This glacier has shrunk remarkbly in the last few years and is continuing to do so. Many millions of people rely upon this water source as well as the animal and plant life in the valley.

I remember watching a news finding that apprently we are just going through a stage. And the planet every now and then has slight heat increse or slight cooling. I remember distinctly Also that they said " We shouldn't keep blaming ourselves it is just a phase that will eventually blow over", now that I don't think is right as we should concerned for the anyway, but can anyone confirm this theory?

I have been watching Planet Earth a BBC production of the state of the planet. I think the proof is in the preverbal pudding.

yeah then again many things atonish us that could be true though believes though this I don't,

Yes it very true dragon, during the middle ages there was a "mini ice age" where the temperature around the globe dropped by 0.8 to 1 degree C...

In response to the NZ government query late this year they passed the Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) which is an absolutely dreadful piece of legislation and it had over 800 ammendments passed (rammed through) on the last day of parliament into law before the election (which is tomorrow and the incumbent is likely to lose)...

It is the first ETS (or similar in the world) to include the agriculture sector (by far NZ's biggest industry)... It is estimated its going to cost an average farm $4,000 a year in new taxes (when the farmers cannot reduce over half their emissions, for example you cannot stop cows and sheep farting which is a big producer of methane and counts against our Kyoto commitments, I wish I was joking)...

The governments reasoning..? They say if we are not a world leader on climate change people will not buy our goods (a country of 4 million people..!)... What a crock of s**t... The hilarious thing is global warming estimates range from about 1 degree to 5 degrees, if it is in the middle say 2.5 degrees it will actually make NZ much more fertile and even more productive (we are currently ranked very highly in farming effenciency)...

Climate change is being over exagerrated as a way for scientists to get their name up in lights and the UN and governments to get more power... Go to the green political party website in your country and search the word "ban", you will not believe what they say you must give up for the good of "Mother nature", sounds a little too similar to the "Mother country" don't you think..?

Another scary thing is when ancient climates have been studied they have found there is usually a big upturn in temperature before an ice age set in..! We may be setting ourselves up for the wrong kind of climate..!

Additonally there is the fact that temperatures increase in and around cities (up to 3 - 5 degrees), mainly due to lack of trees, lots of glass, metal and ashphalt... Where are the majority of weather stations and temperature measuring equipment located you ask..? You guessed it, in and around cities... We may be gearing up for the wrong fight based on results measured from an out of equilibrium experiment...

The issues around creating a computer model for the entire planet's weather have been proven to be be a joke...

You may not believe any of what I've written, you believe 1 thing, half or even all of it... All I'm suggesting is to not blindly believe what is being fed to us or what is "popular", have a look at some of the very credible academics who have issued dissenting voices...

In the end I believe if we look to promote clean air, clean water, safe natural food and protect wild areas and animals the issues of man made climate change will resolve itself...
