Seen red fox, gray fox, and coyote in the wild. Most egregious absence is the maned wolf, followed distantly by the dhole.

Finally saw some maned wolves over the weekend. Pretty sure the only canids kept in the US that I have yet to see are now dholes and a handful of rare foxes (pale, island, kit, Ruppell's)

    ...Is it really just Bronx and The Wilds that has dhole in the US? I thought a few other places did, like still no more than 5 or so, but that's surprising to see that it's apparently that low. Not a huge deal since those are both top priority places to visit, but still.

Yeah, astonishingly we’re down to two holders now that Minnesota and Miami are both out of them… hopefully we can import some new individuals.

Also, while it may be too late to edit my post; I just want to clarify that I have not (yet) see a wild Mexican Wolf.

Therefore, I am aware that I italicized “baileyi”; but that was out of corrective labeling, and nothing more.

Hello. With the exception of the African wild dog, all canid species I have seen will have the dates of when I first saw them since 2021, when I began keeping track of the species I'd seen.

2. (Canis lupus [lupus]) - Eurasian gray wolf: Dublin Zoo (2025)*;
3. (Cerdocyon thous) - Crab-eating fox: Zoo VR (2021)*;
4. (Chrysocyon brachyurus) - Maned wolf: BioParque do Rio (2021)*;
5. (Cuon alpinus [lepturus]) - Chinese dhole: Dublin Zoo (2025);
6. (Lycaon pictus) - African wild dog: São Paulo Zoo (2015)*;

*Seen before I began keeping track (2021).

Out of curiosity, what status are we giving the New Guinea Singing Dog for this list? I haven't seen it before so it doesn't affect my species list, but I believe the NGSD has been treated as taxonomically indistinct from the Dingo, both combined under Canis familiaris dingo (as the NGSD is, essentially, a basal form of the Dingo only geographically separated from it by the relatively recent formation of the Torres Strait, and the NGSD is paraphyletic if the Dingo is excluded).
