What do you think is the greatest animal and why?

Personally i would have to say anacondas found in the Amazon rainforest are rather great as they are amazing in how they behave, look and hunt.

I don't think there's any 'greatest animal', the natural world is too complex and interlinked, it's very much personal preference. I think leaf-cutter ants are amazing in their way, the complexity of the colony, the cultivation of fungus, the distances they travel... but albatrosses are equally amazing in the way they travel vast distances, their wonderful flight... just two random examples and I've not even got onto primates.

People's thoughts on the least amazing animals would be interesting - giant pandas?

Humans. Everything we can do is amazing. Or maybe the giant tortoise, because it can live so long.

No animal is the "greatest" in my opinion. The fact that every animal is perfectly adapted for their niche makes them equally awesome to me. It's not like nature/zoos are action movies where you can say "that guy with the knuckles who kicked the ass of the police officer was the greatest character".

If you rather mean what our favorite animals are, then mine would be the dog - for sentimental reasons. My favorite wild animal is the echidna.

Thanks Alan, my sentiments entirely; not wishing to cause offence, but if people ask silly questions, they can expect silly answers.
Continuing to be silly for a moment, I would suggest Koalas are less interesting than Giant Pandas, in that they are less active and smaller.......
