I've seen a lot of captive threatened animals but if we're only talking about ones I've seen in the wild, then I've seen three: the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) (Endangered) (on a beach on Oahu), the sanbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus) (Vulnerable) (while shark cage diving off Oahu), and the sea otter (Enhydra lutris) (Endangered) (in Monterey Bay).

Wild:
Critically Endangered:
  • White backed vulture
  • Black rhino
Endangered:
  • Rothschild Giraffe
  • Grizzly Bear
  • White Rhino
  • Hooded vulture
  • Sea otter
  • Sand hill Crane
These are all I can think of off the top of my head that I’ve seen in the wild. Still have plans to see plenty more!

Threatened species I have seen in the wild.

I'd be interested to know where and how well you saw a Kaka. One of the coolest parrot species and definitely one on my bucket list.
I saw them at Mt Bruce, where there is a habituated flock. Apart from the captive exhibits, which were worthwhile visiting, Mt Bruce was the only place on my rushed 3 day circumnavigation of the North Island late last year where I saw any reasonable number of native birds.

That's where I saw mine - and at Zeelandia.

I went to Zealandia as well, but at night, and we had a thunderstorm, so there was a noticeable lack of kakas. Also of little spotted kiwi, which was more the point of the exercise. :(

From my time in South Africa:

EN:
African penguin
Cape cormorant

VU:
African bush elephant
African leopard
Cape giraffe
Cape mountain zebra
Great white shark
Indian Ocean humpback dolphin
Nile hippopotamus
Secretarybird
Southern lion
Woolly-necked stork

While not evaluated by the IUCN, I did see the flightless dung beetles (Circellium bacchus) that are endemic only to Addo Elephant National Park and the surrounding area, and if evaluated, it is very likely they would be listed as "Vulnerable".

In this thread I’m specifically referring to animals seen in the wild. I’ve only seen one.

Otway black snail.( Victaphanta Compacta)

Vulnerable
Greater Prairie-Chicken (Tympanuchus cupido)
Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritus)
Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus)
Rusty Blackbird (Euphagus carolinus)

Endangered
