While back I posted this pretty crazy story
Zoo Stories
but here's another story .that happened over and over and over:
the old ape house (built in the 30s) at the St Louis zoo was one of the literal bars dealies.
People were separated by a 4 footish tall fence from the bars. So you could get really close, like maybe 3 feet. For the gorillas there was a little
maybe 12 square foot pool of water that was at about the height as the fence. Somewhere along the line the male Rudy started splashing the water at people. Which of course attracted more and more people , but of course that really wasn't his intention. He would splash people and attract a crowd. The people loved it, kids would squeal and shout and then when I guess he had a big enough crowd he would take a runny diarrhea dump (which I don't know but seemed like he could do it at will) and it would float throughout the water. The really weird part is that almost nobody would move from their spot as if thinking NO WAY. But there was a way and when he then splashed, the crowd would quickly disappear and Rudy would sit back with a satisfied look.
