What is your favorite zoo that DOESN'T have your favorite animal?

At Pairi Daiza they don’t have jaguars at the moment. We shall see what comes for The Sanctuary. I guess and hope they will be there in a enclosure outside the greenhouse and maybe with the possibility for them to be seen in their indoor accomodation. It would be a great opportunity for them now with the return of leopards with the black panthers being anounced to have all Panthera species (big cats) in the world, also having lions, tigers and snow leopards. If the jaguars will be there, hopefully in a great exhibit with a swimming facility, climbing structures, heat rocks, etc. that will be big enough for them, it will be amazing.

Penguins are my favorite animal and 2 out of 5 of my favorite zoological facilities do not house them. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park can potentially build an African Penguin exhibit since it fits geologically though I admit it isn’t necessary due to their sister location holding them (though it also supports how transferring can be possible if the park plans ever feels like added them to the collection). As for the Los Angeles Zoo, I it would be interesting if Little Blue Penguins were added Australian aviary but of course I fear of LAs rodent issue, another possible place could be the Sea Life Cliffs (if pinnipeds are ever phased out) or the empty exhibit near the LAIR that used to house Grey Seals. IMO I feel like LA can benefit more than the SDZSP with penguins (being another big star animal/or at least iconic and popular) as even staff told me they are quite an asked animal “where are they at?” by the kiddies. I do know LA had a tragedy were penguins were predated on by native coyotes (believe tho at the old location) but if the zoo is able to house flamingos (during open hours) outdoors, I feel like the same can apply to penguins.
(P.S I also know penguins were part of a master plan with an aviary with flamingos I’m unsure if these master plans proceeding anytime soon rn at least)

I go to Wildlands Emmen a few times a year, despite the fact that to the horror of my 5 year-old daughter, it doesn’t have flamingo’s. She still usually calls it “that zoo without flamingo’s”.

It is a bit tragic, because they’re very few zoos in the Netherlands without any species of flamingo…

Actually the Big Cats list also include the two Clouded Leopard species (Neofelis) into the subfamily Pantherine. Pairi Daiza used to have the Indochinese Clouded Leopard, but not anymore. Maybe they will return with the Sanctuary ?

The only Zoo in the World that has All Pantherine species is Batu Secret Zoo in Indonesia.

I still miss the clouded leopards at Pairi Daiza too. Most of the time the clouded leopards are placed in the Neofelis genus. Are there still seen as part of the genus of Panthera? I know there is some confusion because the snow leopard is sometimes placed in the genus Uncia. But they are surely part of the Pantherine subfamily.

Clouded Leopards are placed in genus Neofelis, but Snow Leopard is placed in genus Panthera .

There are few Zoos in Europe that have all the spieces from genus Panthera. Beauval, Sofia, Krakow, Sosto, Parc des Felines etc.

My favourite animal is Common chimpanzee and to answer the question - Auckland Zoo.

HOWEVER…

Whether a zoo has my favourite animal has zero bearing on whether I visit as I have different favourite species at different zoos; and I enjoy seeing new or novel species above all else.

In general, I like seeing a large group size of any of my favourite species e.g. a multigenerational herd of elephants or a large troop of baboons. Both of these examples would be more interesting than a pair or trio of chimpanzees.

Singapore Zoo, no Nile Hippos in sight but you can definitely not lie on how much of a world class zoo this is plus Pygmys are good substitute.
