What is your job?

I'm also a doctor at a hospital.

I find this thread very interesting. Everybody who is happy to should join in. :)

I work in a large independent school in the south of England – this is probably why my posts are quite frequent through the school holiday, but more rare during term time. My background is as an English teacher, but, possibly sadly, I don't do so much classroom teaching now, as I am a deputy head. Possibly the most exciting thing about the school is that we have our own zoo: our collection is quite large, with, mammal-wise, yellow mongooses, Egyptian fruitbats, a skunk, red squirrels, dormice, tenrecs, tree shrews, African hedgehogs, and a Virginia opossum. I may have forgotten some species. The bird collection is not so large, but we do have a lot of reptiles and amphibians. The collection is overseen by an occasional Zoochat contributor; having a colleague who knows his aardvark from his emu is, of course, fantastic – as is the opportunity when work becomes rather onerous to slip away and see how the mongooses are getting on.

stay-at-home Dad:D tending three, wild children (humans) six, four-legged children (dogs) and thousands of kids (reptiles and amphibians, as well as their feeders). I'm a slave. :p Oh, and a Husband, too! I'm living the dream! :D

I oversee our residential and commercial properties, as well.
I also do millwork and woodworking in my spare time. :)

I`m a classical musician ... a viola player to be precise ( and in case anyone knows about viola jokes believe me I`ve heard them all ... )
Foreign touring is part of my job ( though much less frequent now than say 10 years ago ) and it has enabled me to get to Zoos in various parts of the world I otherwise would never have got to ( for instance Japan and most recently China ) . The downside is playing somewhere with a Zoo but not having the time to get to see it ... so near and yet so far ( I have a list of places I have performed where basically we arrived , rehearsed then played the concert leaving no time to check out the local zoo ... Atlanta and Karlsruhe spring to mind - Karlsruhe in particular being a real pain as the zoo is literally behind the concert hall we were playing in so I could see into it but had no time to actually get in ...:( )

I work for a small charity doing communications, some design and marketing work, helping out on various projects etc. Nothing to do with zoos apart from the fact that I spend most lunchtimes on zoochat or designing zoos.

I work at a restaurant part time because I'm at university. Everyone complains about hospitality but I've yet to find anything easier.

I'm a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. I left the UK (Scotland) 25 years ago and have been working overseas ever since. Qatar, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and from 1999-2012 Dubai. I left Dubai in June 2012 and have been on holiday ever since, however I should really get back to work soon. :-)

Hi Everyone;
First time poster and new bee here. Until recently I have been a lead teacher of young kids. Currently I am considering a career change. I am interested in working with animals. I have loved them since I was born (ah, ok, I was three :).I don't have the chemistry background to be a vet (or the stomach?), but am thinking about animal behavior or education. Currently I'm applying to volunteer as an aide to a Big Cats keeper. I'd appreciate anyone's experience.

Im currently a veterinary student, 3 years in.... 3 more to go! The aim is to be a Large animal vet; cant think of anything better than stood in a field at 3am with my hand up a cows backside!

I also worked at a building society for a couple of years - mainly as a cashier and also in the head office doing paper work *YAWN*
