What languages did you do at school?

Mother tongue is Dutch, so there's that.
And being Belgian, obligatory French lessons in Flemish schools back then, I think I was 8.
They used a very popular Belgian comic book for this "Bob et Bobette" (Suske & Wiske).
I've then had French until my last day of school, when I was 19.

Got English when I was 14, and German only in my last 2 years of school when I was 17.
 
My native language is Czech and I've been learning English since elementary. I had to choose another language in seventh grade. There were only two options: Russian and German. So I went with German, because that made more sense to me. But I studied that language only for 2 years, and so I remember... nothing.
 
Taking French in college, also took it in high school. Only options in HS were French and Spanish and our Spanish teacher was having health issues so I took French for an easier experience. Now I just want my college requirements met with ease. Spanish would have been a better decision though for usability.
 
I'm French and I'm learning English and German, and I stopped Latin 2 years ago. All good choices (even if English is compulsory :rolleyes:).
 
In high school I had English, German and Italian

Later I studied Japanese at university.

The way English is taught in France gets a lot of hate but it actually worked pretty well for me. I understood the grammar quite well by the time I left high school, and all I needed was more exposure to the language to make significant progress.

German is more difficult as it takes more work to master the grammar. I regret not taking German more seriously when I was at school as I could be fluent by now. But the way it was taught didn't make it appealing at all...

Sorry for the quote, I should have added, that none of the languages I had in school were by choice. So even English & German, I had no choice but to get these classes, they came with the curriculum, and could not be removed.
 
Dutch is my mother language and was also taught in school. Other mandatory 'living' languages in my curriculum were - in descending order of importance - French, English, German and Spanish.

In my secondary education curriculum I also had to take two dead languages, Latin (only a living language if you're in the Vatican or some parts of the Catholic Church) and Old Greek. These two languages did offer me a lot of help in analysing and understanding many scientific terms later on and to this very day, so I absolutely find having studied them useful.

In my higher education I did not really take any languages, although scientific use of English was a part of several subjects and classes.
 
My mother tongue is Japanese, I went to an English school and learned German for a few years there.
