Lots of nice animals.

I currently have two dogs, a nine-year-old male Lhasa-apso poodle mix and a female Jack Russell terrier poodle mix who will be a year old on August 31.

In the past, I've had other dogs, Caribbean land hermit crabs, goldfish, Siamese fighting fish, and oriental fire-bellied toads.

First time I have come across this thread, and this subforum to be honest.

I know a couple of people on here know already, but I do have a small growing private collection at home, although over the next 2/3 years I do intend to set up on just over 4 acres around 3 miles from where I live.

Currently at home, I have transformed my two spare bedrooms into animal rooms, and have just done the ground work on my whole garden to have 6 new enclosures, added to the 3 outside enclosures I already have.

At present, I have:

0.1 Fennec Fox
0.2 Brazilian Cavy
1.1 Northern Palm Squirrel
0.2 Finlayson's Squirrel
1.2 American Red Squirrel
1.1 Prevost Squirrel
0.2 Neumann's Grass Rats
3.1.6 Barbary Stripped Mice (Zebra Mice)
2.0 Chinchilla
5.0 Sugar Gliders
3.0 Harvest Mice (Trying to find females)
1.2 African Pygmy Mice
0.1 Short Tailed Opossum
1.1 Cactus Mice
1.1 Acacia Rat
1.0 Three Banded Aramdillo

0.0.2 Yellow Headed Gecko
1.1 Peacock Day Gecko
0.0.1 Madagascan Day Gecko
1.0 Giant Day Gecko
1.0 Crested Gecko
1.1 Blue-Tailed Day Gecko
1.0 Gold Dust Day Gecko
1.0 Veiled Chameleon
1.0 Panther Chameleon
1.0 Jackon's Chameleon

In the next 6-12 months, I plan to add another 10-12 species of Phelsuma, as well as Fijian Banded Iguana and Four Horned Chameleon. This would then bring my reptile collection as complete as I would like it.

On the mammal front, in the near future, I plan to add another species of Squirrel, as well as Northern Tree Shrew, and potentially Prehensile Tailed Porcupine in the early part of next year.

I currently have:

1.0 Golden Doodle (family dog)
1.1 Ferrets
0.2 Leopard Geckos
1 120l Aquarium (the fish are giong to be rehomed soon)

In the foreseeable future I will get Axolotls and maybe a Greek tortoise

Wow, that's not what I would call a "small" collection. You have enough animals you could open a zoo if you wanted to!

OTTB
Miniature horse
Miniature donkey
Vietnamese pot bellied pig
15 chickens
Building enclosures for alpaca, llama, zebra, otter, bear, big cats, giraffe and a walk through aviary and stingray pool. We are developing about 15 acres for our teaching zoo.
Next month we start AZA paperwork, the new requirements come out October.
Wild on the property we have deer, bear, turkey, hawks, eagle, owls, bats, woodpecker gater and turtle

Srathmore zoo is a small private zoo, set in approximately 1 acre in the Worcestershire countryside. We have been developing the collection over the past 7 years. The enclosures are all natural (small trees shrubs etc)except for the psitacines aviaries

With regard to the Geoffroy's, recently had a subordinate female become pregnant (neither myself or my very experienced exotics vet) have come across this situation, infact my vet said we could probably rewrite books on Geoffroy's. The female died during giving birth
And finally ,Gracie our mad but beautiful callico tabby cat
You have probably guessed what my career was
Cheers

0.3 cats (Dot, Mirabelle, and Luna)

3.0 platies (Dave, Steve, and Zipper)

0.0.1 molly that my dad got for the tank thinking it was a platy (Bananabolt)

In the past there was a 1.0 swordtail that was also a case of mistaken identity, who died of old age I believe as it was a good 2 years, and a mixed school of 0.0.3 each of Sterbai corydoras and unknown albino corydoras that died because even when we tried algae wafers specifically for them, the little "platrahnas" and swordtail ate all of their food so they starved to death.

This is all at dad's. At mom's, the landlord won't let us have any animal, even though our neighbors have cats and dogs and such. We briefly kept sowbugs in a little enclosure as they were all over our house in the winter, to release in spring. We got yelled at for even that, and for the rest of winter, the sowbugs were secret. There are some neighborhood cats (notably a really friendly one named Max), chipmunks, eastern cottontails, and cedar waxwings that visit, for what it's worth.

What I can't have even at dad's? No poultry. None. You have to have 10 freaking acres to own chickens. It's really sad, because I'm a bird fanatic and I just know that my life would be so much more happier if I could just escape to my yard after yet another day that sucks to meet with a bunch of colorful chickens, ducks, and other friends. Heck, if I really was zoned for this, maybe even some goats. As it stands, though, I guess I just have to remain unhappy.

Some more!

Update: both Steve and Bananabolt died like a week ago and dad didn't tell me until now and I am pretty freaking mad

Sadly, my juvenile Madagascan Day Gecko passed away last week. It was not really taking to live food and was fussy on repashy. It had seemed healthy and was feeding it with a Pipette, but sadly couldn't get it to put on weight, even under vets advice etc, and it didn't make it.

Recently I have acquired;

1.1 Siberian Flying Squirrel (Pteromys Volans Volans)
1.0 African Pygmy Hedgehog

Barbary Striped Mice, I now have 4.1.11. The four confirmed males have been separated into a bachelor group, and any males from the 0.1.11 group will be removed in the next 4/5 weeks and I will look for new homes for them, as I don't want them to have any more babies for a while.

I have a new pair of Short Tailed Opossum coming next week, and some Yellow Tooth Cavy arriving in the next couple of weeks.

Also nearly finished four new outside exhibits and have some exciting new additions coming soon. Plus also have a4ft indoor exhibit and a 6ft exhibit being built for a couple of rather rare African small animals which I should be able to say more about soon.

Collect my new pair of Short Tailed Opossum and a trio of Yellow Toothed Cavy on Friday, and yesterday I picked up a Round-Eared Elephant Shrew.

Nothing else after these for October, but do have a couple of really nice animals coming in November and the house is nearly getting full, and the garden is nearly full too!
Like myself, I think that you have caught the madness, good for you

yesterday I picked up a Round-Eared Elephant Shrew.
Now this is news to me, because until today, I didn’t think that it was possible at all to keep any species of elephant shrew as a pet; especially one that happens to be owned by a ZooChatter!! Anyways, how common is it to find round-eared elephant shrews in the UK pet trade, and where exactly did your elephant shrew come from?

They aren’t common for sure. I know of a couple of private collectors with them. Don’t really wish to disclose where I get some of my animals on a public forum to be honest.
