Hello everyone , i just wanted to ask any of you who have had the chance to visit Port lympne recently and their african safari , what animals they keep in the small tropical house there? i have seen some pictures of hispaniolan iguana, jesus christ lizard , boa constrictor but i know there must be more species kept which havent been photographed. I think it is fantastic that Port lympne have started keeping reptiles as the Aspinall parks have always been made up of predominantly mamalian species and less of bird or reptiles, except for the elderly Burmese pythons near the Gorilla enclosures at Howletts and perhaps 8 blue and gold macaws which were by the elephants and also kept at Howletts.

I can't remember all the species', but when I visited in May I remember Red-Footed Tortoises, Poison Arrow Frogs, Pygmy Marmosets, Tarantulas, Rat Snakes, Pancake Tortoises, Striped Grass Mice, Leopard Tortoises, Spiny-Tailed Lizards, a Desert Iguana and several others which slipped my memory.

Thankyou amigo , its great to know about the pygmy marmosets , thankyou ever so much

any thoughts on why so many of the species in the African Safari Tropical House are from the Americas? :)

The road to zoogeographic theming is paved with the harsh reality of what animals you can get! Actually, I think I'm right in saying that the main paddock isn't completely African-themed either - there're Asian ungulates in there as well.

And it's not explicitly stated as being an African theme; it's called 'The Discovery Zone'.

Maguari, you're right as the main reserve has nilgai, blackbuck and then near the discovery zone they have bush dogs!
