What species would you like to see at your local zoo(s)?

I would love to see the following at the Toronto Zoo:

Toucans, of any species. They used to have one in the Americas pavilion a long time ago, but he passed away of old age.

Dingos would make an interesting addition to their new Australian exhibit. They do have a close relative, the New Guinea Singing Dogs, in the children's zoo.

Cassowaries! I love these birds. I find them strangely beautiful. You can never have too many Australian critters.

More marsupials :D

Takin. As I hear they are getting Giant Pandas and I think they'd fit in nicely with the Chinese animal theme.

North Chinese Leopard. See above :) The zoo used to have them before sending them to Jungle Cat World in Orillia.

African Wild Dog. As the zoo is expanding it's endangered species breeding programs, I think they would be an excellent addition.

Ethiopian wolf. See above. Not sure if there's any in captivity though.

Swift Foxes. I think they would help raise more awareness of Canada's/ America's endangered species.

I always thought Okapis would be an interesting addition to the African Rainforest exhibit.

Bongos. They used to have them, but one died and the other one was shipped off to another zoo.

Bonobos. Can't have too many African animals, too!

A few more cats. Ocelots, Pallas.

Wildebeest, Nyala, to add to the existing mixed species exhibits.

Coyotes, badgers and pronghorn for a Canadian Prairie exhibit. Not all in the same space, of course, but an exhibit where they look like they are in the same space. Maybe fit the Swift Foxes in there, too.

At Chester Zoo:

Gorillas
Pygmy Hippos
Secretary Birds
Marabou Storks
Malayan Tapirs
Snow Leopards
Koalas
Giant Pandas
American Bison
probably more as well...

completely wishful thinking ;)

I'm not going to say which exhibits that the animals should go in, as that is more of a personal vision type concept.

At Chester zoo, I'd like to see:

Bennett's Cassowary
Blue Billed curassow
Mountain Tapir
Bulwer's pheasant

Yellow Backed Duiker
Mindoro bleeding heart
Ethiopian mounatain adder
Blue coral snake
Gharial
Fiji crested iguana
More Frogs!!

Then, as with Jimmy, probably more...

Here are just a few that i have though for Chester. I Have tried to be semi-realistic
Aye-Aye
Golden Lion Tamarin
Golden Headed Lion Tamarin
Diana Monkey
Javan Langur
Golden Cheeked Gibbon
Pileated Gibbon
Lowland Gorilla
Giant Anteater
African Wild Dog
Dhole

Great Blue Turaco
Violet Turaco

Melbourne Zoo:-
Dingos in their great australian exhibit.
Sun bears in the asian area because it just has two huge exhibits, tigers and a couple of mostly empty aviaries. I think sun bears would be a good addition that don't need a mega exhibit and a lot of other australian zoo's are trying to breed them.
Okapi but that is just getting too wishful

Chester Zoo
If the 20:20 vision works out - A night safari - in fact I'd love one anywhere closer than Singapore although I'd settle for a big nocturnal house for now. :)

aye-aye
sifaka
mouse lemurs
in fact more lemurs in general I don't mind which! And giant jumping rat,
fossa, tenrecs, chameleons - anything from Madagascar!

Binturongs
tree kangeroos
sloth
koala
kinkajou
owl monkey
slow loris
tamandua
If it likes trees I think I'd like to see it!
oh and ...armadillo, wombat, honey badger - any badgers! echidna.
Basically Aardvark to Zorilla.

If I was picking for Chester (which isn't exactly 'local' but is my most visited), I'd say the main ones are:-

Pygmy Hippo
Tree Kangaroo
Sun Bear
Dhole
Sifaka

My local zoo would be Edinburgh, i would like to see. (kind of realistically)

Tree kangaroo
pied tamarin
Angolan colobus
bonobo

clouded leopard
Baikal seal
Somali wild ass
black rhino
common hippo
okapi
barasingha
Burmese brow antlered deer
Philippine deer
yellow backed duiker
sable and roan antelope

are all i can think of at the moment, i will do a list for hwp, when i think about it.

Along with many others !!!

Now for the now empty former Gray seal pool, i would like to see

Cape fur seal

All these animals cannot possibly be there at the same time but those are just examples of species that I would like to see at my local zoo

I do find it rather bizarre that there are very few zoo's or wildlife parks in the United Kingdom that actually hold any particular bear species.

Chester Zoo already has a Malayan Tapir! It's housed with the cows (forgot its actual name ) in between Lemur Island and The Okapi Experience. It also has sloths in the Jaguar house.

Pygmy Hippo
Regular Hippo
Giant Pandas
Koalas
Peafowl ( wandering the zoo like they used too )

Sea Lions with an enclosure like Blackpool Zoo. ( Clear Water etc )

An Australian themed Tropical Realm with budgies, cockatiels, cockatoos etc.
North American animals such as Bison, Wolves, Black/Brown Bears, Raccoons, Skunks, Beavers, Bald Eagles.

Polar bears, walrus? Emperor Penguins.

I also think the Aquarium could be made a lot better...

Alaska Zoo: in addition to species held here and at the AWCC in Portage, I'd like to see

Beringia
Asian Lion (or even generic Lion)
Pzewalski Horse
Saiga
Kiang
Dhole
Wisent (all three Bison species at Anchorage area zoos)

Or maybe
Spectacled Bear (all four Western Hemisphere Bears)

Or maybe
Pacific Walrus
Ribbon Seal

Trade out our Domestic Yaks and Alpacas for Wild Yaks and Vicunas and Guanacos.

This is going to be VERY wishful and unrealistic in parts but, hey, one can dream. :)

Adelaide Zoo:
South East Asia section-
Clouded Leopard
Francois Langur
Dhole
Komodo Dragon

I'd love to see a South American section at the zoo, but I don't imagine there'd be much space. I would LOVE though:
Capybara
Black Howler Monkey
Jaguar
Tamandua

Monarto Zoo:
Bonobo
African Leopard
Impala
African Elephant
Baboon (any species)

It'd make me ridiculously happy to have okapi anywhere in Australia, and bonobos as well.

Binder Park Zoo:

Greater Rhea
Darwin’s Rhea
White-Throated Tinamou
Grey Tinamou
Great Tinamou
Highland Tinamou
Tawny-Breasted Tinamou
Hooded Tinamou
Berlepsch’s Tinamou
Little Tinamou
Cinereous Tinamou
Tepui Tinamou
Brown Tinamou

Oh, I love tinamous! lol I would love to see all those species exhibited! I'm a big fan of ratites and tinamous!

Hi, my local zoos are Melbourne Zoo (10 min away) and Werribee Zoo (40 min away).

Id love to see some more animals from Northern India and Southern Nepal!

Id love an exhibit with the following in it:

Indian Rhino
Blackbuck Antelope
Chital/Axis Deer/Spotted Deer
Common Langur Monkey
Rhesus Macaque Monkey

(all of these animals live in the same area and can be kept together in a mixed exhibit I assume - if engineers can find a way to create a nice enclosure that the monkeys cant escape from)

We already have Tigers (albeit Sumatran Tigers rather than Bengal Tigers), Peafowl and Asian Elephants (as well as Snow Leopards and Red Pandas from a little further north), so these species may fit in well.

Of course my suggestion isnt really realistic, but it would be nice to see it happen!

Note: we do have blackbuck at Werribee - but I think they are off display at the moment. We also used to have Chital.
