What species would you like to see at your local zoo(s)?

No, sorry, it was a bit cryptic, but i asked Keith whether Tulsa had Polar Bears and said Highland wildlife park was too far to go(only UK public zoo holder). I mention it regularly on Whipsnade threads too. Plus my namesake was a polar bear born at London zoo who remained there throughout my childhood. Whipsnade have not held polar bear since the mid 1980s.

Oh, I thought you meant an animal on that list you posted. Whoops. :o

My locl zoo is quite small (maybe 5 acres tops?) so my list would just involve small carnivores, echidnas, small mammals and maybe a primate or two.
Off the top of my head I'll go for any echidna, bush dog, otter civet, any linsang, African civet, tayra, yellow-throated marten, hairy-nosed otter, any flying squirrel, ring-tailed, yellow and Indian mongoose, pallas cat, oncilla... I could go on and on! ;)

Cleveland Zoo-
African Savanna- Demolish Monkey Island, leopard cage, overflow parking and make a hippo enclosure, OR move meerkats from AEC to Monkey Island, remove colobus, bring back rock hyrax, keep klipspringer, to make meerkats, rock hyrax and klipspringer. Expand black rhino exhibit, demolish Monkey Island/leopard, add more antelope to the African Plains. Put Kirk's dik-dik in AEC (maybe in the aviary).
Northern Trek- Bulldozer time! Except for the onagers, reindeer, camels, birds, etc. Maybe build a North America exhibit here kinda like Columbus.
Waterfowl Lake- Fine.
Australian Adventure- Demolish the little sand playground and put an aquarium or expand the rabbit exhibit.
RainForest- Fine.
PCA- Demolish! Then build a reptile house, aquarium, or nocturnal house.

In San Diego Zoo, I would love to see...

Javan Mouse deer
Sumatran Rhino
Javan Rhino
Linsang (any type)
South China tigers

I'd love to see a comprehensive big cat exhibit at the Detroit Zoo. All we have right now are lions and tigers. I can remember pumas from a while back but I'm in my sixties, have lived much of my life in this area, and I can't recall any leopards except for a few years a couple of snow leopards.

What I've always thought the zoo really needed was a good small mammals house and reorganization of the display pits to the south of the Arctic Grill, formerly the Pavilion. As far as I can tell, no one else sees this as a pressing need.

We are in the final stages of building what looks like a very good penguin house, with the old Penguinarium to be turned into a bat conservation center, which I guess counts as small mammals. I link below to an article on this project.

Any Zoochatter who is planning to be in the Detroit area, let me know. I'll be happy to take you to the zoo as my guest--not as generous as it sounds, as I have a member+one membership.

Personally I think manatees would fit in pretty well at Moody Gardens. MG already has quite a bit of focus on Gulf of Mexico species and habitat. Texas also has very few aquariums and there's only one captive facility in the state (World Aquarium in Dallas) that I know has manatees. Also, on a more personal level, I feel relaxed at the MG aquarium so manatees just seem like a good fit, ha ha.

Polar bear (currently has two polar bears in the Aquário de São Paulo, but they're aren't in good conditions)
Giant panda
Red panda
Gorilla
Koala
Aardvark
Fennec fox
Cheetah
Emperor penguin
(these were only some of the animals. In Brazil we haven't big zoos)

Unfortunately, Zoológico de São Paulo doesn't show animals with a nice health.

To compensate, in Brazilian zoos we easily find awesome animals such as:

Toucans
Macaws
Anteaters
Jaguars
Tapirs (but I still prefer the malayan ones...)

What I want to see at my home zoo(Chimelong Safari Park)

Okapi
Aardvark
Aye-Aye
Wombat
Tasmanian Devil
Maybe some antelope(dik-dik,saiga,sable......)
Indian rhino(probably Javan)
Kiwi
