what zoo is better chester or colchester

It is now widely accepted that Chester is the best zoo in the UK, and with the Islands project on the horizon, it doesn't look like this will change.

On an advice for a new member note, I would suggest that you avoid starting too many threads in a short space of time, sometimes it's best to have a read through some of the older threads to find answers rather than ask a lot of questions at one. Welcome to ZooChat :)

Welcome to Zoochat nice to see another local :D and a brave choice of topic lol unfortunately this site is rather Chester top heavy and the Colchester crew has sadly diminished into the fake rockery as late!
They both have their merits but for me and what I want from a visit Colchester wins easily, but it really is personal choice.
No where else in the country has a many talks/feeds as Colchester, it is a very interactive zoo you really feel part of it as a member or visitor. No where else can you feed an elephant and giraffe for free.
For families you are never far from a place to eat/play/sit down/toilets with baby change it is very family friendly. Also lots of interactive displays for children my grandson loves the musical instruments in the children's area.
Always plenty of staff around to chat to and ask questions, some zoos you see no one.
Yes it has some quirky design 'phases' throughout the zoo but it can never be accused of staying stagnant over the years with a constant stream of enclosure improvements (as well as a few dodgy ones :) )
Not saying I don't enjoy a visit to Chester, I certainly don't feel any emotional connect like with Colchester, although the giant spider will traumatise me for a while!

Colchester is sounding better and better, I wish it was easier to get to. 4 hours on the train...via London. Getting to feed elephants might almost make that worth it.

Whoa whoa, over a hundred pounds for the cheapest ticket? Perhaps not.

That's the reason I've never managed to get to Colchester either, if you book in advance though I'm sure you'll be able to get a cheaper ticket for a future visit. I've been tempted on more than one occasion but it's the travelling time that puts me off, I feel I'll end up missing a lot of the zoo as apparently it's quite easy to get lost in. Even for fairly regular visitors! :p

Why has there been a recent obsession to compare every zoo with Chester? 3rd thread in about 2 weeks.I didn't bother commenting on the comparison with the others because they were no contests!
To me the answer is fairly simple: whatever peoples personal preferences or favourites( & Chester isn't necessarily mine), Chester is almost certainly the best zoo in the UK. Colchester though is, in my opinion, one of a very few other zoos that anyone could even attempt to make a valid argument for being better. For me Chester edges it.
