Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo? - 2012

The zoo has a new summer visitor and activity guide. It is also posted online (link below) where you can read all the pages.

Cover of the guide says Cat Canyon opens June 30 (2012). This will be HUGELY DISAPPOINTING to one group of people. The Feline Conservation Federation is holding their annual conference in Cincinnati this year at the beginning of June. I believe their designated zoo day is Friday, June 8th. They are there just for the cats and obviously had hoped the exhibit would be open when they scheduled the conference dates. UK fans of Port Lympne may be interested to note that Neville Buck is one of the featured speakers at the conference.

Sadly, that is not a very hard task to accomplish. (The only great snow leopard exhibits as far as I can tell are one in Switzerland and two in Sweden).
 
The three miniature pig piglets and the bat-eared fox kits are now on display in the Nursery.
 
Pancake Tortoises, and Desert Grassland Whiptail Lizards have also been born. Also for a while the zoo's website said that the feathertail gliders didn't have a location, now it is saying that they are in Jungle Trails. I wonder if this is just a mis-hap since the sugar gliders were taken off the website even though they shouldn't have been.
 
Sari, the female Bactrian Camel, gave birth to a male calf on April 23rd. He will go on exhibit after 10:30 a.m. on April 26th. The zoo has a poll on their website with three possible names for the calf: Henry, Lyn, and Cain.

I have been to Bronx - it is the best one in the US (although possibly tied now with the new one at their affiliate Central park). But based on the photos I have seen it cannot compare to the three I mentioned (Zurich Zoo, Kolmarden Wildlife Park, Nordens Ark).

This is an article I made up about the zoo, I have been working on it since March and and it is finally complete. This even shows former exhibits, currents exhibits, records, and also this years Zoo Babies.

There have also been Australian walking sticks born.

Kudu21. Thanks a bunch for showing the videos, it is a miracle and unexpected that the zoo actually had a camel birth.
 
Thank you for all the help from everyone. I was able to visit the zoo, and did get a so/so picture of the Aye-Aye. I think there is something special about the glass they use as it seemed to have a spider web like effect, and that might be why they don't mind if you take flash pictures. I don't know as this isn't something I was told, just something I found out, as I did try a few flash pictures, though the Aye Aye didn't seem the slightest bit bothered and there were several places he could go to get away from it. As I said, I genuinely didn't want to bother or scare him, but had long wished to get a picture of one. I did even contact the zoo through facebook and they didn't seem bothered by taking flash pictures, and told me the best time to see the Aye-Aye active is between 10:00 and 10:30 as that's when he often comes into his exhibit, which he shares with the bamboo lemur and potto. I was very happy to see the little guy, and now have a lasting memory of my time there. Thank you for that.

Here are a few of the pictures I took. As I said the glass had an effect on the Aye-Aye image and gave it a kinda spiderweb in front of him look. It was the best I could do as he was 95% of the time up in a corner which was hard to even see, let alone photograph.

The Jungle Trails area really is a beautiful and detailed exhibit. I had wished they'd make the path a bit wider and more uniform as my father needs to use a wheelchair and maneuvering the area was difficult. Other then that though, the foliage and level of detail was gorgeous, and the African building was very nice.

I had a very small amount of time at the zoo, I wish it was longer. About all we saw was the Andean Condor, the Night Hunters building, and Jungle Trails outdoor exhibits and the African Building. They radioed to check if the sumatran rhino was out, and they couldn't guarantee it.

First of all, thank you :)

I may eventually do that with some of my pictures as I have several from various zoo, but I'm new to the forum, and also rarely post my pictures in public websites, but felt that since people on here had helped me, I should at least let them see what I took. I will think about it though, especially as I get more used to the site :)
