However, recent data reveals a cry for help might be necessary to save this iconic Canadian species.

Happening south of the border, too. As someone who's experienced excessive boat wake on busy Northwoods lakes in the summer I have no doubt it's playing a part in this.

Right now they're pretty common. Pick any lake in the northern half of the state and there's a good chance there's a pair of loons nesting on it. Declines have been evident in recent surveys, though - every year the list of the lakes they nest gets a little shorter.

Ah thank you for letting me know. Have you read literature (ie population surveys etc.) about Common loons published by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources?
