What's the thrill of hunting?

I too not understand the reason behind the hunting.

I think why to kill animals, god has created so many beautiful living creatures in the world.
We say most of time that this particular animal is so beautiful and looks cute then how some people can kill them.

Nice sentiments indeed, but unfortunately, some people, amazingly, actually enjoy the concept of sneaking up on an animal and....BANG....killing it.

I wonder if these macho hunters would enjoy the sensation of being hunted?

Hey! Re-read the thread! You are stealing my idea for the next big thrill. ;)

They are hard to eat if still alive. :p

By your reasoning it would be ok to kill ugly ones.

Do you know how expensive dog food is? :) It costs me $150 a week to feed my dogs or I can go out on the bike for a weekend and bring home some roo legs or a goat. 1 roo leg feeds 1 dog for an entire week and a bullet is a much nicer way to go than being brought down by a pack. And before anyone complains about shooting skippy roo is the natural diet of my dogs in the wild and I have 8 hungry mouths to feed.

I enjoy it. Im just as content, if not more, shooting targets as I am live animals. But I can not explain the "thrill". I had not been out for a long time until a few months ago and was dead set sure I was only going to shoot targets. but on the ute, seeing a bunny or goat or something else and the adrenaline kicks in. safety was still always there first and foremost but if there was a clear shot Id take it.

And to relate this to zoos a lot of them use kangaroo meat to feed their carnivores, They don't just kill themselves.

.

As we don't talk about poor, hungry people like pygmies here, who are dependant on hunting for food, I feel like taking a closer look at all the nice explanations given by hunters in this thread.

For me hunting is nothing but an ego trip, combined with lack of empathy for all living creatures except perhaps man.

Some thrills of hunting?
I can prove I am a man's man.
I am as good as any man (female hunters)
I am courageous
I am serving conservation
I qualify as the member of a special group
I protect my farm, plantation, forest etc.
I feel powerful

Well, there is nothing manly or courageous about just pulling a trigger. For instance, when tame lions from a circus in Europe are brought to Africa, standing helpless in a completely unfamiliar environment, just to be killed off.

Or killing a preselected elephant, with full safety for the "hunter", as there are plenty of employees, trained to intervene, if he should fail.

The conservation bit: Killing the animals of one species to protect animals of another species,- all for the sake of mankind-, even the meat will be distributed generously afterwards.
I have never heard any hunter reflecting the possibility, so solve the growing imbalance of nature by stopping the overpopulation of humans.

Showing off - by belonging to this special class of hunters, very often wealthy.

Greed: Why sharing with animals what I rightfully own, paid with my money....

The killer: Exciting way to assert my power. Legally! A proper war would also come in handy.

Hunters, a tribe on the brink of extinction? When the last animals have been killed by humans, one way or the other, they too will have to go.
Not too sad, I would say.

Well said.!

Get ready for the string of replies from the macho brigade...............how boring.

Jarkari you have dingoes don't you? You should have mentioned that so people would understand why you said they eat Roos in the wild.

Yes I do want everyone to keep it civil.

I am happy for hunters to help us get rid of rabbits, foxes, feral cats, goats, pigs and other introduced/pest species. It's just that I do not have the stomach to do it. :D

I am suprised someone from Germany with a very well organised and managed hunting program would think that.

Germany has a very high and well managed game population of Roe Deer, Russian Boar, Fallow Deer, Muflon Sheep and Red Deer. All hunting areas or concessions are managed by hunters. Some are private leases and some are state forests that then offer small leases to residents. The cost of such leases is often linked directly to the annual quota and the species available.

The only time I usuallyhear about hunting in Germany is when wild Boar begin to come into towns and cities and people complain there are not enough hunters shooting them and keeping their populations down.

Incorrect.
An ad from members of the hunter association?
Although there were a few such incidents reported earlier on, it has nowhere been mentioned as the problem you suggest.
Apart from that, owners of the gardens concerned initially, should easily find ways to protect them.
