What's the weirdest animal for you?

I love binturongs. The zoo I work at (Pittsburgh) has one named Arthur. He isn't put on exhibit, though. He's such a sweetheart.

I like elephant shrews, strange, but fascinating animals. Unfortunately I've only seen one in zoos, we had two giant elephant shrews at the Frankfurt Zoo, one of them lived here from 1978 until 1988, another one came to Frankfurt in 1991 and lived only two or three years.
Both animals were very popular to the visitors, altough most them thought, it was an coati or an anteater.

There is another species of them in some US-Zoos, the black and rufous elephant shrew, I look forward to see them next year.

one of the weirdest for me is the Mississippi paddlefish
YouTube - Löffelfisch

I didn't know Frankfurt had one, i thought only Berlin and Leipzig had them in Germany, my favourite fish species.
Where else are they held in Europe, i know Bristol have a couple, from London originally i think?
Do London still have them?

I'd say proboscis monkeys are the oddest I've seen. I saw them when the visited Cincinnati in the early nineties and also in San Diego.

Actually voted most ugly dog this will have to do it for me, known as sam, ( I am so mean)

Mata-matas! Their faces are so weird...hehe. And poor dog! Are you sure it's real? It looks like it could be something out of a horror movie...:(

yeah, it's for real , was even on ripley's and Guiness, oh gee Mata-Matas when I first saw them I actually thought it was a report on a turtle that had been found bear a nuclear power plant! :(

Ohhh boy- I wonder what the poor guy had to go thru before he came out looking like that :(. Yeah I remember seeing my first Mata-mata at the Smithsonian. He had his head under some sand/leaves at the bottom of his tank...took me awhile to realize it wasn't *all* a pile of leaves...I spent easily five minutes trying to find his head!

I would say that both the aye-aye and the armadillo, which moves like a little clock-work toy, have a pretty strong case. Although, i think that on the grounds of their stuidity, their ugliness and the fact that when they were crossing the mara river, several began turning and swimming back, realising that they should be on the other side, jumping back in and repeating the whole performance. Plus, they look absolutely nothing like antelope - they're just weird.

I think the weirdest animal I've seen are caecilians. They are just so strange looking! The absence of visible eyes gives me the chills as well. Marsupial moles, (Which I have undoubtedly not seen before) I think are pretty weird. It makes me think of an opossum, mole, and pink fairy armadillo all smushed together!!!;)

The weirdest animal is one who comment on a thread more than 10 years ago:p (no offense)

Joke asides, I always think aardvark is weird and wonderful. That's why it's in my name.

I've been so desensitized to animals like axolotls and Lake Patzcuaro salamanders that I don't see how weird they are. They have gills outside of their bodies!
