What's your favourite Central European zoo?

Actually this is probably one of the places I want to visit most. I really want to go to see the historic architecture so Vienna will be my first, followed by prague, wroclaw, plizen and alpenzoo.

Vienna. It´s the best not only in Central Europe, but maybe even in whole Europe. On my first visit (late sunny spring many years ago), together with whole Schönbrunn areal, it just blew my mind. Not because of any single feature or place or exhibit. But the whole atmosphere.

My favourite is Prague (and I haven't even been yet, should have been going in September)!

So what countries count as central European? I would suggest any country that has a border with Russia is Eastern Europe?

I was in Prag and i think its a Cool and interesting Zoo.
I think its interesting that Prag has 3 Tiger Species Malayan, Sumatran and Siberian Tigers. They have Cool Animal Houses aswell Like the indonesian Rainforest Hall or the Giant Salamander House.
And its the First Zoo with Southern Cassowarys and Komodo Dragons ive been to. These two Animals and the Tigers are a good Reason to go to this really good and mostly Modern Zoo.

The Brown Hyaena are probably the main attraction for me, but the collection is among the top 5 in Europe without doubt,!

Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania would definitely be Northern European by my definition and Poland Central Europe. Western Ukraine is arguably Central European in character.

Central Europe I would say is Germany (although you might want to divide parts of it into western and central), Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.

Ultimately there is no fixed definition and certain designations will not be accepted by some people in those countries due to perceived negative connotations.

This explores some definitions: Central Europe - Wikipedia

Does Berlin count as central European? Question for @TeaLovingDave really, as the 2 Berlin zoos are the best I've actually visited!

I would definitely agree that Berlin counts as Central Europe - although as alluded above I think that some of Germany falls under Western Europe, and I don't think the dividing line can be fairly said to tally with the line the Iron Curtain took through the country.

Similarly, I think Poland can be fairly divided into Central and Eastern Europe, and Croatia can be divided between Central and Southern Europe.

I've come up with the following map to roughly delineate my thoughts:

central europe.PNG

In other words, the following countries fall entirely into Central Europe in my mind:

Czechia
Slovakia
Austria
Liechtenstein
Slovenia
Hungary

The following countries fall into multiple classifications, of which those regions I think have an argument for falling under Central Europe follow in italics:

Germany - Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Croatia - Central Croatia, Istria, Slavonia
Poland - Greater Poland, Lower Silesia, Lubusz, Opole, Pomerania, Silesia, West Pomerania

OK, as Berlin counts, Tierpark Berlin is my favourite zoo visited in 2017(not sure it still would be now!), likewise Berlin zoo 2nd, but I suspect Prague would beat both!

For me Central Europe are former Austro-Hungarian Empire, former Prussia and Bavaria. So nowadays: East Germany, bigger part of Poland, small western part of Ukraine, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, half of Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and northern Italy (so very similar to Dave’s definition). And the best zoos are: Berlin Zoo and Tierpark, Leipzig, München, Nürnberg, Wrocław, Wien, Innsbruck, Praha, Plzen, Dvur Kralove, Budapest, Bussolengo - that's enough, even I still have some more good candidates.
