Penguin Exhibit at the New England Aquarium

When I visited the New England Aquarium in 2016 they had African, rockhopper, and little penguins, but it seems that their little penguin exhibit has been eliminated? Does anyone know why and when that happened? Has the aquarium expanded one of the other penguins into the space where the little penguins were?

An internet search found this response to a twitter user.
“What happened to the little Blue Penguins? ... Unfortunately, we had to send our little blue penguins to new homes because of a long-term plumage problem that can happen in these birds. We'll miss them, but they now have happy homes with other little blue penguin colonies! Mar 20, 2020”

The lighting used in the penguin exhibit was causing molting issues for the birds so the colony was split up - some went to Bronx and Cincinnati. Some individuals from those two institutions are heading to Scripps in La Jolla for the opening of their little blue penguin exhibit set to open this summer

To answer your last question, Africans have permanently expanded into the former Little blue section. Not sure if they still allow the rockhoppers and Africans to interact and swim amongst themselves.
