When this virus as passed were will be the first collection you visit?

Well we have tickets to Howletts for next Saturday. Then the plan is Hamerton and probably Wingham in July. We picked Howletts first as we've not been for a while, it has not got a lot of indoor areas (I am assuming access to the gorilla enclosure may be restricted) and I think it lends itself well to the social distancing generally.

We went to Whipsnade a couple of days before the lockdown but had we not that would also be high on the list. Marwell is our 'local' zoo (I use the term very loosly!) so we'll probably get there sooner rather than later.

I visited pre general openings 2 Dutch zoos and was tempted to visit a 3rd before I found out my concessionary card is not yet valid for visiting zoos.

Nothing since though for 2 principal reasons:
A) I am failing directly on cash funds to do so very frequently and losing aka quiting your job pre Corona is not the easiest time to be in
coupled with
B) the travel restrictions still in place in public transport with frequent change overs and scheduled waiting hours before the next one which all do put me off at times. I can handle the use of mouth caps, but it is the more general stuff like schedules and advertised public transport access being a misnomer for a leisurely walk of say 4-5 km just to get to an entrance ....

What really gets me is the frequent signals or demands for "please work from home", where quite a few demographic groups are totally left out of the equation. Despite all the calls for a more inclusive society, it is something we have yet to experience from either governmental authorities or local communities.

Hello Guys

Zoos have now Open again and i have visited the Wildpark Bad Mergentheim Last friday:p

Shaldon or Exmoor for me, however I have a few I have been wanting to visit fruther North if anyone from the South West fancys a road trip hit me up!!

I never in a million years expected that the first collection I would visit after re-opening would be Dudley, but is was a very pleasant and well managed experience. I have purchased tickets for Cotswold Wildlife Park and I'm planning on heading there on Saturday. I'm expecting it to be pretty busy. I visited CWP the Sunday before closure and it was really easy to comply with social distancing regulations and the whole park felt almost deserted, I'll be sure to let everyone know how the first weekend of re-opening goes.

Visited Axe Valley yesterday for the first time since lockdown. Highlights must be Leopard Cat kittens snuggled up with mother in the nest box, and three new aviaries housing:
*Common Cranes, Northern Helmeted Curassows, Kookaburra
*Night Heron breeding colony
*Oystercatcher (3), White-cheeked Touraco, Crested Bronzewing Pigeon, pairs of Yellow-billed and Hottentot Teal, Southern Lapwing (3)
SIX mongoose species: Yellow, Dwarf, Banded, Egyptian, Cusimanse and Meerkat.
European Lynx and Jaguarundi have bred this year. New pair of Servals look good, very relaxed.
Lovely little zoo.

I visited Exmoor on Tuesday 7th, and then Paradise Park (Hayle) and Newquay on Friday 10th. It has been rather different but it has been good to get out, see some animals and take some photos. I have posted or will post reports in the appropriate threads.
I wore a face mask at Exmoor and wrote it about in the thread. But at both Hayle and Newquay I had been so careful to sort out exactly the right photo gear and to remember my booking details that I forgot my to put on a mask (twice on the same day ). I have not changed my mind about wearing a mask, but I have changed my mind about my mind! I have a booking at Paignton next week and I will put a clean mask in my camera bag, next to my packed lunch - I never forget either of those :).

I am hoping to get back to Chester Zoo or Folly Farm maybe later in the year hopefully when the zoos are quieter. I usually take an annual trip to Chester every October so I will be disappointed if I can't make it up this year. I was very lucky to get to Folly Farm just days before lockdown was announced.
