Where are the outstanding small zoos of the world?

What species are these then? I thought they only had breeding Madagascan boas beehind the scenes? I can't remember seeing any info about anything extraordinary...:confused:

So it does fit in with the critera! :) That is a great example of a good small zoo, it's also notably improved since I first visited!
 
I agree with Brum. I enjoyed my visit to Newquay Zoo. It has an interesting collection, including Owston's palm civets, fossas and narrow-striped mongooses. It is easy to walk around and is not pretentious. When I visited, there were several displays about the zoo during the war and this made a change from displays in other zoos.

I never even thought to try zootierliste for BNC, never thought it'd be worth it as I'm so familiar with it! thanks for the links! :D

EDIT:- Is the ground squirrel off show? I thought they had at least one specimen in the small mammal house?

Well it was off-show in the Small Mammal House when I last visited,and they only have the 1 unless they have got some more,since my last visit,that said I should be visiting the place again in the next few weeks,and all being well will be seeing all the wonderfull species off-show as well!

Lucky you! :p I didn't even realise the offshow collection was that extensive... :)
If you want to PM closer the time I'll try and make a trip to BNC and meet up, give you some memories of mine and how much I think it's changed over the last 20+ years. Up to you! :D
