Where are the wildebeests?

The only time I currently believe I have seen a Wildebeest is in part of the Serengeti Plains section of Busch Gardens Tampa, felt weird that all the other zoos I've been to haven't had them

Elmvale Jungle Zoo in Ontario, Canada has blue wildebeest as well after a visit to the zoo earlier today.

According to the 2019 AZA Ungulate TAG Midyear Meeting Program Updates, there are currently 71.117.26 Blue Wildebeest in the AZA program across 23 zoos.

This one actually, which has the information for other species as well. Oddly enough it has slightly different numbers from that page.

Thanks. There are far more than 17 non AZA zoos with Eland. 5 with Jackson's hartebeest. 1 non-AZA with Red-fronted gazelle. Apparently, one Guenther's dik-dik still left. 6 Zoos with Steenbok. 1 non AZA with Pudu. Says maybe 5 with Musk deer. 2 Non AZA with brocket.

Those are numbers for animals within participating SSP/TAG programs, random roadside zoos and ranches are generally not participating members of zoo breeding programs. Also where are you getting your hartebeest information from? Back in 2017 there were only 2.3 hartebeest left in the entire country public or private, now there are 20 animals. Clearly someone or someones in the private sector have managed an import of new stock, though it appears to have been overwhelmingly male. There is only 1 non-AZA with Red-Fronted Gazelle, at least in the breeding program. The Gunther's will be at Cameron Park Zoo. I am surprised he's still alive tbh.

Conversely, it's interesting how some species have relatively high numbers but a really low humber of holding institutions. Giant Eland for example.

The number of wildebeest holders surprised me, considering they seem to be concentrated on larger institutions.

I agree, although when it comes to the eland in particular I think the issue is mainly that private individuals control the program with zoos/the AZA getting very little to no say in what happens and where they go.

that link you sent me is the source for hartebeest. Where is the non AZA zoo with Red-fronted gazelle?

Sorry I thought you were saying more than five zoos keep hartebeest. I believe a private collection in Florida has the gazelle.

Fortunately Balck Wildebeest are back in germanyafter 18 years and can been seen now at Serengetipark Hodenhagen. ( 21 species of antelope)

But I couln't find any information about that species at the Boulder Ridge Wild Animal park. The webside and themaps show only Blue Wildebeest.

So are there any Black Wildbeest left in any north american colletion, or can they be found now only in private collections ?

What Us-Zoo had them in the past, so in the 70ty and 80ty years ?

I don't believe Boulder Ridge has them anymore, currently at least twenty at the Six Flags Safari in New Jersey. Also B Bryan Preserve in California and Wild Wilderness Drive through Safari in Arkansas.
