Im doing an assignment about a business in my college course and Im doing Exmoor Zoo. Quick question, does anybody know where any of their animals came from. I just need a couple, any will do.

I already know where the Cheetahs came from but I need about two or three more.

:)

Where did the cheetahs come from? Im sorry but i don't actually know where they came from maybe email the zoo and ask?

the white faced saki, if its still there, came from london zoo! i understand that they took on a few animals from the clore exhibit.

Their female Black Leopard (whos name escapes me at the moment) came from the Santago Rare Leopard Project in Hertfordshire 2007/8 where she was born.
Hope this helps :)

Ebony is the Black Leopard's name. :)

Thanks for these. The thread can continue as an interesting list of where the animals come from because yesterday I got the distinction for Business all ticked off and sorted.

Thanks for the help, though. :)

I was told that Exmoor took on a number of animals from Penscynor Wildlife Park in Wales when it closed , unfortunately I do not know which species .

But definately not the Sooty Mangabeys...;)

Exmoor have(or had??) a single geriatric male Diana Monkey which came from ZSL. Down the road at Newquay there are 0.2- seems a stupid arrangement, why can't they loan him as while he's alive, however ancient, there is still a chance he could breed.

"Bringing a Tayra to Exmoor Zoo today. One of the ways RSCC is helping other UK zoos!"

Or alternatively one of the ways in which other zoos are helping RSCC by taking excess stock. I really hate this "Aren't we wonderful and the only ones doing it" attitude that many small collections have.

The big groups of B+W Ruffed and Ring Tailed lemurs came from Penscynor

There were two Diana Monkeys at Exmoor when I was there. I'm not sure where they have come from.

ISIS still list Exmoor with 1.0 and Newquay with 0.2 but I know it can be out of date.

I wonder if Exmoor still have the old male and have paired him up now in that case?

So do I. South Lakes does it very agggressively. It implies that a zoo is far superior to others, when in fact its probably inferior and no competition need exist anyway.

Does Exmoor still have the Bush Dogs? These were one of the earliest species after it changed from being a bird collection.

No bush dogs left, unfortunately. They could never encourage the pair to breed.

Could I suggest that either the geriatric male Diana may be either too old to be paired with females at Newquay, closely related or that Newquay has a plan to import an unrelated male in the future???

Many of the animals, particularly birds, started off at the park in it's previous incarnation. Exmoor as a progressive small collection works with many zoos in the UK and Europe, so one would be hard pressed to name the origin of all their individuals.

A male monkey is never too old to benefit from a female companion and he could still breed. It sounds like he may have been given a mate now anyway?(see above)

Newquay have had 0.2 for several years now- a long time to have wasted their breeding potential unless they really can't source a male or they are post-reproductive.

I don't recall there being any Bush Dogs when I was there, no. And the Diana Monkey were a male and female pair but I didn't have much involvement with them so I don't know whether its the old male with a new female or a complete new pair.

I think they still have blackbuck, they did a couple of years ago (but only about 4).

The Diana monkeys bred a couple of years ago, so I would imagine the male would not be too old to breed now...
