Which collection in the United kingdom has the most on-show species of Mammals

This is a fascinating thread, but hard work. I've just revisited the Edinburgh information on Zootierliste and can't come to a definitive number. Basically my memory (I only get to visit annually, most recently in September) is not up to the task. I don't make lists like some I know do and can't remember whether/where some of the more obscure (generally smaller) mammals were on-show (I'm fairly sure, but not certain, there wasn't Lynx or Beaver on display for instance).

Can anyone who visits regularly put a number on it?

Also, ZG can you clarify whether the Chester number includes domestics (I think it does) so everyone can compare like with like?
 
Just did a quick check on Chester and got 70 on show mammal species and 7 offshow mammal species.

Just one out from ZooGiraffe's total and I included domestic Bactrian Camel in the count, I assume he did the same.
 
@ Shorts I did include the domestic Bactrian Camel in the count for Chester,which is at the moment the only domestic mammal on-show in Chester!

@ Dublinlion using the book what zoo's can do for a mammal count for this thread was a good idea,but one that I discounted as I KNOW that the count includes species that are being held off-show,and as this thread is just about the numbers that are ON-SHOW!

@ Bongorob my count was taken from my last visit to Chester and waht could be seen if they had shown themselves.

Wow, that's pretty exotic for a domestic:). That's also a very low number of domestics, but when I think about it most places in the thread with high numbers of non-domestics (Edingburgh, Chester, Marwell) don't have domestics. Seems to point towards the theory that domestics use up space which could otherwise be used for more exotics.

Agreed utterly and completely. They also tend to be very labour-intensive, with lots of bodies needed to make sure that kiddies of all ages don't abuse the privilege of being up close and personal with rabbits, goats, guinea-pigs et al.

I used to look at the previous incarnation of London's Children's Zoo and think how easily convertible it would be for a desert mammal exhibit....:(

As far as I know the Beavers are definately still on show... the Lynx are at the HWP... I counted 72 using Zootierliste... but its difficult.. I didnt include the animals that are in the Animal Antic shows.... its difficult..lol
